Gregg County Commissioners Court Implements 90-Day Burn Ban
Longview, TX – The Gregg County Commissioners Court convened in a special session today at 9 AM, during which they adopted a new 90-day burn ban, effective immediately. This action replaces the temporary burn ban issued by Judge Stoudt on October 15, 2024, which was enacted under a disaster declaration and was set to expire after seven days.
The decision to implement a longer burn ban comes in response to ongoing dry conditions and the potential for increased fire hazards in the area. The Commissioners Court is committed to ensuring the safety of residents and protecting local resources from the threat of wildfires.
"The extended burn ban is a proactive measure to safeguard our community during this critical time," said Brian Russell, Assistant County Fire Marshal. "We encourage all residents to adhere to this ban and stay informed about fire safety practices."
Under the new 90-day burn ban, outdoor burning activities are prohibited unless specifically authorized by the adopted order. Residents are urged to report any violations to local authorities.
For further updates and information regarding fire safety, residents can contact the Gregg County Fire Marshal’s Office at 903-237-2522.
