This is life insurance awareness month - I am sharing a post from Amy McCarty, Author.

Five years ago today was the last day Frank walked out of our house.

We kept what was happening very quiet while he was in the hospital. Only close family and friends knew. For 22 days, I stayed by his side while he fought a very hard fight.

And when he died, the fire in my soul seemed to die with him. A part of my life was done. The book was finished. The main character in my story died!

I was sad. My children were sad. Frank’s siblings were sad. His mom, Debbie, his cousins, his friends and coworkers were sad.

Even our house was sad.

The house where we had lived for nearly 20 years began making creaks and moans I had never heard before. It felt as though the house knew someone was missing.

Five years later, every one of us who was closely affected by Frank’s death has grown and changed in ways we probably could not have imagined then.

And somewhere along the way, I realized something:

My life doesn’t have chapters.

It has sequels.

There are parts of life so big that you don’t simply turn the page and begin another chapter. That book ends. You close it. You sit with everything it held. You think about the characters and how you met them and fell in love with them. You wonder what will happen to the characters in the next book.

And then you wait for the Author to begin writing the next one.

When I look back now, I can see the different books of my life. Some were beautiful. Some were ordinary. Some I would read over and over again if I could.

And some were incredibly hard.

Maybe that is one of the reasons we survive the hard books.

So that someday, when we see someone else standing at the beginning of one, we can reach back and say:

I’ve read this kind of story before.

Here is what I wish I had known.

Here is what helped me keep going.

And maybe … just maybe … what we learned in our hardest book can make someone else’s a little less hard

Who actually needs insurance?

I did.

This meme is one that I saved right after Frank died. It still hits my soul. Grief is hard enough by itself. The bills don't stop. The mortgage doesn't stop. Life keeps going even when you feel like your has come to a complete standstill.

This is why I believe so strongly in life insurance. It can't take the hurt away, and it can't make grief lighter to bear. It gives you breathing room while your loved ones figure out the next steps to move forward in life.

If you want to talk to me about life insurance and what the financial cost of it is while you are living vs the financial cost of it when you are gone, I am happy to talk. I will answer questions and listen to your concerns.

People say, “You handled it so well.”

Sometimes you didn’t handle it. You survived it. You survived it while grieving, paying bills, making decisions, and trying to hold a life together that had just shattered.

Life insurance cannot take away the heartbreak. But it can give the person you love time to grieve without also fighting to financially survive.

Give them choices. Give them breathing room. Give them one less thing to fear.

Call or text me. Let’s make sure the people you love are protected before they ever need it.

When our children are little, we imagine everything ahead for them. Halloween costumes, school days, graduations, careers, weddings, families of their own coming to the house. We assume *we* will be there together for it all.

Life insurance can't replace a parent. It can't show up for birthdays or walk your daughter down the aisle.

What it *can* do is keep the other parent from stressing about bills. It can keep the utilities on while the other parent grieves. It helps cover the cost of the weddings. It helps the young adult kids feel safe as they transition into adulthood.

If you have never really looked at what your family would need, I am always happy to have that conversation with you. Call or text me. I am happy to visit with you. No pressure, just assurance.

Life doesn't always go according to plan.

While we can't control every outcome, we can take steps to help prepare the people we love for the future. Life insurance can provide valuable support when it's needed most.

September is "Life Insurance Awareness" Month. This September marks five years since I lost my husband, Frank.

All month I will be posting about life insurance. I will have some post that come from Southern Farm Bureau, and I will have some very personal posts. All post though talk about life insurance and how important it is to have insurance that you are in control of outside of work.

The message is all the same for all my post this month - life insurance is what you set up to care for the people you love. It is NOT a scam, and it should never be an investment.

The money you put aside is to help the people you love transition into a life where you are not there anymore. This photo is the first family photo we took without Frank. It was at the reception following the funeral.

Texas weather has a mind of its own, but taking care of your home doesn't have to be complicated.

Here are a few simple things you can do around the house that could help when the next storm hits:
- Take photos of your home and belongings for your records.
- Know where your policy documents are and how to reach your agent.
- Secure anything in the yard that wind could turn into a projectile (yes, including the trampoline).

If you're not sure what your policy covers, that's what we're here for.

Simple truth: good drivers save more with Drive’n Save.

If you've got a safe driver in the house (or you are one), ask us about Drive’n Save.

It's an easy way for careful driving to actually show up on your premium, and for parents of new drivers, it's a little extra peace of mind about what's happening behind the wheel when you're not in the passenger seat.

Takes a few minutes to set up. Ask us how it works.

Can I ask you something?

Do you know what your deductible actually is?

I'd so much rather have that conversation with you on a sunny Tuesday than the morning after a hailstorm. It takes ten minutes.

Bring your questions, I'll pull up your policy, and we'll make sure there are no surprises waiting in the fine print.

The storms around here don't give much warning. Your covered.
