🔥As Fire Prevention Week 2026 wraps up, here are 5 easy things that you can do TODAY to help prevent and mitigate fires in your home and business:
TEST SMOKE DETECTORS! 📢 - Smoke and CO Detectors save lives. Test every 6 months.
Check Extinguishers 🧯- Make sure they are charged, commercial extinguishers should be serviced annually.
Inspect Electrical Cords 🔌 - Frayed or otherwise damaged extension cords should be replaced. Don't allow power strips to become overloaded and never plug one power strip into another.
Clear Exits 🚧 - Keep hallways, traffic areas, and exits clear. The space in front of electrical panels should be kept clear, free of any combustible materials.
Review Exit Plan 🏃♂️➡️🏃➡️🏃♀️➡️- Make sure to review exit routes and meeting place with your family or employees. Make sure everyone knows their role in case of an emergency.
As use of rechargeable batteries increases so has the number of fires caused by overloaded batteries. Visit https://www.nfpa.org/events/fire-prevention-week -safety-tips for tips to avoid this preventable hazard.
