“Act your wage.”

Is something I tell clients both young and old alike, but mean very different things.

It needs to be applied by young people who are spending more than they should, and not saving enough.
My 50/30/20 income strategy needs to be followed during the working years.

50% needs.
30% wants.
20% invested.

However, for those on the back 9 of life with significant assets and solid income, should spend more and enjoy their lifestyle before they get too old and are unable to.

It is not uncommon to see people with over 40 years of disciplined investing, achieving significant wealth by being frugal & not over spending it when retired, but leaving it to their children when they pass on.
Who then wipe it out in a few years with over spending.

Teacher your children well.

We humans can't feel big numbers, so convert them to time:

a million seconds is 11 days
a billion seconds is 32 years
a trillion seconds is 31,700 years

The United States government is adding trillion dollars of debt every few months, in addition to the $40 trillion existing debt.

Unsustainable.

Do you think taxpayers are paying it back?

Get a plan in place.

I haven’t bought a single client a US Treasury bond the past 6 years, while Big Box institutions have been recommending 40-60% for retirement portfolios.

Now, US Treasuries are experiencing one of the worst bear markets in history:

The 30Y US Treasury price return index has dropped -60% since 2020, to ~107, matching its lowest level in 2000.

In other words, in just 6 years, the index has erased nearly 20 years of gains.

By comparison, US nominal GDP has grown +63% over the same period.

This comes as the 30Y Treasury yield has surged +478 basis points from its intraday low of 0.71% set in March 2020.

To put this into perspective, its previous largest drawdown over the past 40 years was -35% during the 2008 Financial Crisis.

We are witnessing a historic bond market decline.

Stephen A. Smith says he was warned by his estate planners to leave California every weekend because the government would TRACK his phone calls, then uses that data to collect MORE taxes.

He thought they were kidding. Then he got his tax returns. They weren’t.

What’s happening here is the “jock tax” in effect, which is California’s way of collecting more money from entertainers and athletes based on days worked or spent in the state.

And here’s the disturbing part.

California’s tax collectors pull cell phone records to show where you were when you took your calls so they can prove you were still hanging out in Cali so they can hit you with another taxable day.

Smith got sick of Gavin Newsom taxing him to death and moved his ass out of California. He now lives in Florida.

SMITH: “I’m sitting down with my estate planners and all of that. And they said, ‘Look, when the weekend arrives, it would be in your best interest to go to Vegas or to Utah or something.’ I said, ‘Why?’ And they said, ‘Well, if you stay in California, you know, IRS, they ping your phone. So, anytime you get a call or you’re on the phone, they know that you’re in the state. And that counts as a tax day.’

“And I said, ‘You got to be kidding me.’ And sure enough, when I saw my tax returns, it was absolutely correct.”

This jock tax is not small money, either.

Shaquille O’Neal found that out the hard way. His first year with the Lakers, he signed for $20,000,000.

By the time taxes were done with it, his check came in at $10,900,000 for the year.

Then the jockey tax took another $4,000,000.

And Shaq walked away with about $7 million out of the 20. Two-thirds of his paycheck went to taxes.

This “success” in CA is sure to be followed by other Blue states.

Treasury has done this only once before.
You ask why we have inflation that makes things unaffordable for many.

Now $40 trillion in debt.
Paying $1.2 trillion annually in interest.
Printing money.
Buying our own bonds with tax dollars.
Securing the “too big to fail” institutions.

Here is no clearer example.
Manipulation by our leaders.
The Fed & Treasury.
Stepping in to support our own debt.

The US 30-year yield just crashed below 5.20% after the Treasury doubled its long term bond buybacks.

The yield hit 5.337% yesterday, a 19 year high, before dropping to 5.189%.

A buyback is when the Treasury goes into the market and buys back bonds it already issued.

Treasury is doubling the size of these operations in the 10 to 30 year sector from $2 billion to $4 billion each, starting September 9 and running through November 4.

Treasury says this is about liquidity, not the level of yields.

What do you believe?

Buckle up.

The US government is now spending $3.8 billion on interest PER DAY.

By 2028, estimates show that the US will spend ~$5 billion per day on interest, more than any other category.

To put this into perspective, the US now spends $3.1 billion per day on Medicare and $2.5 billion per day on defense.

When the cost of your debt becomes your biggest outlay, you know something is broken.

The 30 year Treasury Yield is breaking out.

What impact do higher borrowing costs have on the American & Global economies?

Huge, mostly problematic.
Buckle up.

A good financial plan will mitigate the taxes paid.

What is the “fair share?”
Listen to both political sides, do your own research, then decide what position to take.

You can argue that wealthy Americans should pay more.

You cannot seriously argue that they currently pay nothing.

According to the latest available IRS data, the top 1% paid 38.4% of all federal individual income taxes in 2023.

The top 10% paid roughly 70.5%, while the bottom 50% paid about 3.3%.

High-income Americans earn a disproportionate share of the country’s income, and they also pay a disproportionate share of federal individual income taxes.

You can believe the system should collect more from them.

Just don’t pretend they aren’t already paying a massive portion of the bill.
