Once a year, Medicare gives you a window to actually change something - switch plans, adjust coverage, fix what wasn't working the rest of the year. That window is October 15 through December 7, and once it closes, most people are locked into their choice for all of 2027.

It's easy to let this window pass by if nothing feels urgent. But plans change every year, even when you don't touch a thing - premiums shift, networks shrink, drug coverage gets rearranged.

Deductibles, in-network requirements, and referral rules trip people up more than you'd think, and a lot of people skip screenings simply because they're not sure what they'll be charged.
