I've been helping a newly relocated client submit paperwork through Social Security, Medicare, and Medi-Cal to get his health coverage started and changed to the area. The process shouldn't be this involved, but when dealing with large government offices during downsizing, lockouts, and furloughs - it can be EXTREMELY SLOW & FRUSTRATING!! 😡 But, I'm happy to say today the offices of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and Social Security finally processed all of my paperwork and online submissions CORRECTLTY!!! My client can now start a new chapter of top-level healthcare without having to drive over an hour to see their doctor in their old city!

Today was one of my favorite moments in being a Medicare agent. Someone had just received her Medicare coverage and was COMPLETELY READY to retire and say goodbye to office work forever!! I found her doctors, her specialists, her medications, and told her she can just enjoy her life at her own pace. I've taken care of setting up her care and support team. . . plus reduced the pesky deductions she was paying for her employer group health coverage. Enjoy life! You deserve it!

Late in the afternoon, I received a call for help from one of my new clients. She needed help understanding her new plan documentation and making arrangements for a medical procedure. With traffic, Google maps estimated an hour drive to get to her house. Oh well. . .someone needs help. . .I'll be there! ❤

Stopped by my cousin Danny's house to answer questions and explain the new and unfamiliar process of starting Medicare coverage to both him and his friend that are planning on retiring within 6 months. I mentioned that they should consider me their personal "Tour Guide" in the usually intimidating trek of navigating the potentially confusing road to complete + cost-saving Medicare coverage. It's Saturday on Memorial Day weekend and I received a call asking for help in understanding the confusing Medicare eligibility timeframes. The person asked if we should wait until next weekend since this is a holiday weekend. I denied that and said we need to address this ASAP before the end of the month. Plus, I work ALL THE TIME and national holidays don't stop me from being available to help people.

I was asked to coordinate benefit eligibility information between the three main offices for people with limited income who are leaving the workforce due to health issues. We need these offices to be on the same page, but they don’t seem to share information! One office tells you to fill out a # #- # # form, while another says that form hasn’t been used in seven years. When I requested the address for the local office to speak with someone in person, I arrived to find an abandoned building being TORN DOWN. How is this system supposed to help seniors and the disabled community get their health care started? 😞

Today, I spoke with someone who was looking for ways to improve her Medicare coverage. I had spent a lot of time reaching out to her physician’s office to find out which medical group and hospital they were contracted with, but after multiple attempts, I couldn’t get any answers.
Finally, I received confirmation that her doctor only accepts original Medicare, not private insurance. At that point, I knew what to do.
Regardless of the hours of research, investigative phone calls made, and the usual dedication I place into putting together the best health plan consisting of the top health team rated on effectiveness, patient care, technology advancements, & much more - I explained that it wouldn’t be right to enroll her into a health plan her doctor wouldn’t accept, and that she should stick with her current situation by keeping her long-time doctor & her healthcare which is adequate enough to address her health needs sufficiently.
Although I spent weeks working diligently to provide the most comprehensive care package she would have ever experienced. . . I knew it was the right answer to just leave her in her current coverage plan since changing it could cause complications with her care. That’s not my goal. I made a pledge to improve a person’s life by providing them the best healthcare for their situation. If EVERYTHING doesn’t show an improvement - it’s not an option I can endorse.

I was out running personal errands when I got a call from the Facilities Manager at one of the largest senior centers in Southern California. “Michael, I need you to present a plan of action on how you can be this facility’s personal Medicare consultant. The top two officers of the company want you here presenting in three hours!”

WOW! Instant change of plans! My afternoon suddenly looked like this: rush home to change into business attire, grab a quick bite, jump on the freeway, rehearse my presentation while driving through traffic, and answer every question with confidence and a smile 😊. In the end, it all went great! I'm happy to say you're friends with the chosen Medicare Specialist for the largest senior facility in Southern California!
