If you were born in 1959, what is the first year that you must start taking required minimum distributions (RMDs)? That would seem like an easy question to answer, but because of a snafu by Congress, it isn’t quite so clear.

This is the time of year I get a lot of question on required minimum distributions (RMDs) from individual retirement account (IRAs.) It really boils down to the year you were born. At some point Uncle Sam does want a share of your retirement account(s) via taxes. I've attached a pretty good article below to help explain when you will need to plan for this event.
