He walked through what happened during COVID-19 — the massive amount of money the government printed and pushed into the economy — and how that set the stage for the spending surge once things reopened. Cash in hand, pent-up demand, nowhere to spend it for months. Then the floodgates opened.

Since 2007, what we're buying has climbed nearly 70%, while what we actually manufacture has barely budged. We're buying way more than we produce, sourcing more of it overseas — China included.
