Overton County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting 2026 was held on August 13th at the Overton County Fair Grounds. We enjoyed a great meal 🥘 provided by Helen’s Restaurant. President Micheal Garrett brought the meeting to order. Christie Key, agency manager, announced her retirement effective November 1st. She was presented with a plaque thanking her for 30 years of service. Our guest speakers were Katie Martin, Farm Bureau Field Representative and Richard Brown with Farm Bureau. Katie spoke of our grassroots organization and the “Yes on 2” campaign. This November you will have the opportunity to ban a state property tax for good. Voting 🗳️ yes on Amendment 2 will protect you from double taxation after already paying 💰property taxes at the local level. Richard gave us an update on the cattle 🐂 market along with Farm Bureau’s new incentive “Meat the Need”. This new program works hand in hand with our already existing backpack 🎒 program to provide food 🍱 to children in need. We were happy to have some of the first beef sticks to present along with checks to local churches to help with their backpack projects. $3000 dollars 💵 along with over 200 pounds of protein was divided between 5 churches and schools in our community. The $3000 check was in partnership with funds raised through Shooting Hunger Events across the state. If you didn’t already know, Farm Bureau is so much more than just your insurance company.
