VICTORY!
Senate Bill 33 Has Been Defeated!
April 17, 2024 - It is with gratitude and joy that we share the news with you today that Senate Bill 33, Lodging Property Tax Treatment, was defeated late last night in the Senate Finance Committee.
The most significant vote by the committee was regarding the amendment that proposed implementation of a statewide study on short-term rental impacts to infrastructure.
The amendment was defeated by the slightest of margins (4-3) thanks to a courageous vote by Senator Janet Buckner. Senator Buckner’s vote was the deciding vote in this instance and one that we are tremendously grateful for.
At nearly 11:00pm, after hearing three hours of testimony, and a very close vote, the Senate Finance Committee adjourned.
We would like to extend our most profound gratitude to everyone who joined us at the Capitol or online via zoom yesterday, and to those who have engaged in this effort along the way since October 2023. It was a very long day at the Capitol due to delays in the start of the committee hearing, so thank you to everyone who was able to stay up late with us both in person and remotely.
This news has been a long time coming, and we could not be happier to share it with you today. Congratulations!
What’s Next
House Bill 1299 will be heard in the House Finance Committee on Monday, April 22 at 1:30pm. While CLARA is not actively engaging on this bill at this time, we will continue to monitor and listen in as things proceed. We anticipate House Bill 1299 also being defeated in committee next week. No need to testify on this one, but you are welcome to listen in to that hearing if you would like to do so. CLARA will be sure to follow up with our members afterwards with an update, and in the meantime if anything changes as to our position we will certainly send alerts straight to your inbox.
The Work Continues
There are still a few more weeks to the legislative session, so CLARA will be watching to ensure our members are kept up to speed on any bills that could impact short-term rentals in Colorado.
CLARA is also ramping up for an exciting summer of advocacy efforts as we look ahead to the next legislative session! This process will involve building valuable relationships with elected officials around the State - an activity which will need a few extra hands on deck. If you’re interested in learning more about our statewide advocacy plans, send us a quick note so we can get together and put your skillset to work!
Your continued support of CLARA’s efforts means the world to us.
