🚨 Medicare Open enrollment starts TOMORROW October 15th‼️
There are some key plan changes for the coming year. You may not need to switch plans if you want to stay the same, but year-to-year changes can affect premiums, co-pays, and benefits. You can change Medicare Part D drug plans or Medicare Advantage plans. Please 📬 open your mail for your Annual Notice of Change and any letter saying a plan is going away. A major detail is that zero premium drug plans end in 2027, when all drug plans will have a premium, and you may also receive an IRMA letter if income thresholds are exceeded based on 2025 tax returns. ICYMI-💉there’s a new GLP-1 Bridge Program that began in July 2026 and expands Medicare coverage for weight-loss medications. Prior to July 2026, GLP-1s such as Ozempic and Mounjaro were generally covered only for Medicare patients with type 2 diabetes or certain medical conditions needing weight loss. Starting in July 2026, qualifying patients without diabetes may be able to access GLP-1 weight-loss medications like Wegovy, Zepbound, and Foundayo through the Bridge Program with a doctor’s prior authorization for $50 per month. Please note that only Zepbound KwikPen, not other Zepbound forms, is covered under the program.

🚨🗓️ Medicare Open Enrollment is less than 30 days away!
Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15th to December 7th and the Annual Notice of Change will arrive in the first week of October. The notice is not junk mail and helps determine whether you need to shop plans, verify your prescriptions’ formulary and costs, and confirm your doctors are in network since plan changes can occur. Any changes made during the window take effect January 1st, and missing it can leave you with the same plan for the next year. I'm a licensed Medicare broker. ☎️ Can a son or daughter can call Medicare for you on your behalf❓ The short answer is NO unless… you set up a medical power of attorney ahead of time and provide that documentation to Medicare. Family members generally cannot access Medicare discussions because Medicare protects privacy and only talks to you unless specific legal documentation exists. Your child can call while you are on the line or with the proper authorization. 📄✍🏼The bottom line is to plan in advance and complete the authorization forms through Medicare.gov rather than waiting for a health crisis.

💊 Medicare prescription drug plan has big changes under the Inflation Reduction Act that caps out of pocket medication copays. The law sets a maximum out of pocket limit of $2,100 for Medicare covered drug copays for 2026 and resets each year. After reaching $2,100, you stop paying copays for the rest of the year for tier 3, 4, or 5 expensive medications, while premiums and non-covered drugs are not included. Discounts from programs like GoodRx or Costco or King Soopers do not count toward the $2,100 cap. You may be able to spread medication costs throughout the year via a payment plan rather than paying a large deductible upfront. Any questions…I can help!

🚨Medicare scams are on the rise. Here’s what to watch out for if you receive a suspicious contact:
🆓 An offer of “Free” medical equipment or testing
🪪 Asking for your Medicare number -you should never share that information with unknown callers.
☎️Hang up on unwelcome, pressured callers who promise benefits that seem too good to be true
🕵🏻‍♀️ Be your own detective and Google the phone number and call the company back.

📬Official Medicare Summary notices are sent via USPS and can be verified on the Medicare Website after you receive after a claim. For questions you can call 1-800-HHS-TIPS.

🌉Curious about the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program as it pertains to Ozempic vs Wegovy? The new July 2026 law allows GLP-1 options via a program where a doctor must submit prior authorization and the program is separate from drug plan coverage.
⚖️Ozempic is FDA approved for type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy is approved for weight management and weight loss and has been tied to cardiovascular risk reduction.
The program can provide medication options for $50 a month, including Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo, whereas using a drug plan may cost much more.

🤷🏻‍♀️What to do when a Medicare agent will not call you back. Many agents eventually stop growing and may not provide ongoing support, making it difficult to find a replacement, especially for annual Medicare drug plan shopping. Medicare drug plans do not work with agents the same way as other insurance companies and that many agents do not offer this service, while Medicare Advantage agents can be more responsive. I can help if your current agent is unresponsive. TIP -ask how long any new agent plans to stay in the business, especially if you are new to Medicare.
