Hi everyone,
This letter was sent to us by one of our underwriters and I thought it would be beneficial to share with all of you.
It is worth the read.
With the potential impact of Hurricane Isaias in the Gulf, I wanted to share a few reminders and preparedness tips that you can pass along to your insureds. A little preparation now can help minimize damage, reduce claims severity, and keep families safe.
Please encourage your insureds to:
• Review their insurance policies and make sure they understand their coverages, deductibles, and any storm-related limitations.
• Document their property before the storm arrives. Taking current photos and videos of the home, business, vehicles, and valuable belongings can be extremely helpful if a claim becomes necessary.
• Secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, grills, decorations, and other loose objects that could become projectiles in high winds.
• Clear gutters, drains, and stormwater pathways to help reduce the risk of water intrusion and flooding.
• Trim dead or overhanging tree limbs that could cause damage during strong winds.
• Check emergency supplies, including flashlights, batteries, medications, bottled water, nonperishable food, and phone chargers.
• Keep important documents in a waterproof, easily accessible location and have digital copies stored when possible.
• Create an emergency contact list, including insurance carrier claim reporting numbers and local emergency resources.
• Follow guidance from local emergency management officials and heed any evacuation orders that may be issued.
If a loss occurs:
• Take photos of any damage before beginning temporary repairs, if it is safe to do so.
• Make reasonable temporary repairs to prevent further damage and save all receipts.
• Report claims as soon as possible through carrier claim reporting channels.
As always, thank you for taking care of your clients and helping them prepare ahead of the storm. Being proactive can make a significant difference for our insureds when severe weather threatens.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need carrier-specific claim reporting information.
Stay safe,
