The Women's NCAA Final Four is in Phoenix this weekend. the weather makes it a great time to get out and explore downtown Phoenix. We are predicted to have beautiful weather this weekend as well.

It’s heating up on the Valley. They are calling for record high temps all next week. It is perfect timing as Spring Training goes into full swing for the 16 major league team who call the Valley their home.

East Valley happenings are gearing up starting this weekend. The annual Arizona Renaissance Festival starts tomorrow, January 31 and runs every Saturday and Sunday thru March 29 in Gold Canyon.
In Mesa The Asian Festival will be held at Mesa Community College Saturday. Saturday’s Farmers Market and hiking at Usery Mountain will be happening as usual.
Chandler’s International Film Festival isgoing on a various theatres on Saturday. Barleen’s Variety Dinner shows are happening in Apache Junction.
Visit any of these venues and have a great time.

You have heard me speak of the East Valley, but you may not know exactly what I’m talking about especially if you don’t live in the Phoenix area, The East Valley of Phoenix can mean different things to different folks and the definition has changed as time has progressed. As the Phoenix area expands, the East Valley has come to include locations not only in Maricopa County, but also sites in Pinal County.
For our purposes, I will define the East Valley to include the location east of the I10 extending to the Superstition Mountains. The local is dissected by US 60 and includes the towns of Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, San Tan Valley, and we’ll extend the district to include Ahwatukee and Gold Canyon since those venues are commonly left out of any metropolitan area. The total population of those entities account for approximately 1.6 million of the Phoenix metropolitan area population that is right at 5 million.

What’s Up in East Valley Real Estate?

In July of this year, Maricopa County home prices are down 4.2% compared to last July. The medium price is now $460K. On average, homes sell in 40 days. There were 4,662 home sold in July.
The East Valley Institute of Technology opened a new high school at its main campus at 1601 W. Main St in Mesa. The school is an option for students who want or prefer career training or a technical education track.
Queen Creek Unified School District Governing Board has named Jay Schnittger as the new principal at Eastmark High School. Schnittger was assistant principal at Queen Creek High School. Previously he was a social studies teacher, football coach, and athletic director.
Downtown Chandler has some new restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues that recently opened. MicDrop Comedy Club has moved to its new location in the Historic Square on Boston Street. Acqua Di Mare is a unique, upscale restaurant afresh Mediterranean cuisine and a tableside cooking experience to Downtown Chandler.
A Scottsdale staple, Bottle Blonde, pizzeria and beer garden by day and nightclub by night, is interested in the downtown area of Gilbert under the water tower. The space was previously inhabited by Bergie’s Coffee which privately sold the property. There are mixed feelings among citizens in the downtown Gilbert area.

What's Happening in the East Valley?

An aviation air flow test facility with a blast wall is to be constructed on 16 acres in the Sky-Bridge Arizona development at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The facility would be associated with aero-space manufacturer. The project is part of a bigger project according to Glenn Klipfel of ADM Group Inc.

What's going on in East Valley Real Estate?

Bell Bank ended the naming right with he Legacy Sports Complex in Mesa at Ellsworth and Williams Field Rd. After financial concerns at the 320 -acre sports and entertainment complex, Bell Bank notified Legacy Sprots USA that they were terminalizing their 10 year naming rights agreement 9 years early. At this time, there is no indication as to who will take up the naming rights of the sports complex.
