I thought I would share insight into immigration from my personal experience. Obviously we have since divorced but I was married to an immigrant and we went through the legal process of switching his expired visa to a permanent residency. I know so many good people that go through these process and I worked hard to ensure our case went through and gave our family and him safety. From the day we filed it took about 26 months, attorney and filing fees $2-$4000, interview with immigration, return meetings to review his application and file, and contact and meeting with our representative. Luckily he had me as his wife and I was able to speak up for my rights as an American citizen to marry whom ever I wanted from what ever country I wanted. That is the law, but they do not have to just give out residency to everyone. That is why there is a legal process. The current administration does not want to wait for everyone to go through the legal process and is cancelling the applications and cases without due process. People who have documentation to legally work in the US and be here are being picked up in raids and sent to jails without due process. They are showing up for hearings only to be told the case is dismissed and they are under arrest. This is wrong. When you are in the system you are doing everything you can to ensure your application is approved. You hold down a job, you ensure you maintain a residence and you do not rely on government support. For us we had to ensure our household could support him or he wouldn’t be given a residency card. I’m explaining to my friend and family that everyone’s situation is different, but just because the media is showing you pictures of raids arresting groups of immigrants doesn’t mean they are not in the legal immigration process. There are documented and undocumented immigrants. I believe most of America is concerned about undocumented immigrants. Do you know how many fly into the US and over stay there visitor or educational visas every day? Do you know there are over 600,000 from Australia alone in the US? There should be a huge push in congress to update immigration laws and increase the budget to get through the backlogs of cases to see who should be approved and stay and who should be deported. We should see big PR campaigns around the gang and cartel arrest and their prosecution versus 4 ft 11 moms being dragged off of a sewing machine line in California. Where are the public prosecution of the MS 13 members for their crimes? We are now under daily threat of arrest for interference if we question the kidnapping of our neighbor who happens to be in the immigration process. Just because they are from a central or South American country they are being rounded up. I’m not seeing the Canadians that have over stayed or the Indians and Asians that have been trafficked into the US to work at business. Listen I can tell you there is a lot wrong with immigration. I’ve met and know a lot of stories. There is nothing so much fraud in the system it’s shocking. Almost anyone can get there legal documents through connections theougg a members of congress with $25,000 or more. The Saudis said if you buy into a branded property you will get a golden ticket(citizenship) into the US. The only way hard working normal people can enter is through the doors of the US or trafficked in. Go after the traffickers, the businesses that use them and see how easily it would become controllable. What is wrong with being the melting pot of the worlds? It gave us the strongest economy of the world and not we want to break that? Fix the wholes don’t break the pot.
