Public Service Announcement: Discontinuation of Residential Curbside Recycling Program

Please be advised that the City of Lincolnton is discontinuing the residential curbside recycling program. Friday, June 5, 2026, served as the final scheduled collection date for the program. Due to the necessity of addressing future budget reductions and ongoing hiring freezes, the City has made the difficult decision to discontinue the residential curbside recycling program to ensure the continued delivery of core municipal services.

What This Means for Residents:
• Collection of Containers: The City will be collecting all residential recycling containers beginning the week of July 13th. Please place your recycling container, along with your regular trash container, at the curb for collection on the same scheduled day as your regular trash collection. An automated recycling truck, separate from the regular trash truck fleet, will be around to empty any recyclables that may be in your container. Please keep your recycling containers at the curb even if your regular trash containers have been emptied. Additional crews will be following behind the recycling truck to pick up the empty recycling containers following the final collection.
• Purchased Containers: For residents who purchased their own recycling containers after January 1, 2024, the City is establishing a process to address these units. Options will include a refund for the container (provided it is in good, usable condition) or an exchange for a residential trash rollout. City staff will be contacting you to ask which option you would prefer.
• Alternative Recycling Options: Residents who wish to continue recycling are encouraged to utilize Lincoln County’s designated convenience sites. Information regarding site locations, hours of operation, and accepted materials can be found at www.lincolncountync.gov/solidwaste.

As the City transitions away from this service, additional details regarding the collection of containers and financial adjustments will be shared via our official communication channels. We strongly encourage all residents to sign up for Everbridge notifications, visit our website at www.lincolntonnc.org, and follow the City’s page for the most current updates.
