Our heart is heavy over the tragic loss of a man who was loved by so many in our community. He was kind, respected, and always treated people with compassion. This senseless act has left many of us searching for answers.
While I know our local police department and sheriff’s office are working tirelessly to uncover the truth, it feels like there may still be unanswered questions surrounding this case. My hope is that investigators continue pursuing every lead until the full story is known and everyone responsible is held accountable.
Most importantly, I pray for justice for the victim, comfort for his family and friends, and healing for our community.
We must do a better job of protecting our elderly and our children. They are among the most vulnerable members of our society and deserve to feel safe.
Please keep this family, our law enforcement officers, and everyone affected by this tragedy in your prayers.
Murder Suspect Charged in Death of Lincolnton Man Found in Wooded Area

Lincolnton, N.C. — Lincolnton Police Department detectives have obtained murder warrants against a woman already in custody in Mecklenburg County in connection with the death of a local man who was reported missing last week.
Kayla Rose Bessette faces charges of First Degree Murder and Common Law Robbery in the death of Tony Maddox, according to a statement released Friday by the Lincolnton Police Department.
Maddox was first reported missing by family members on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. His body was discovered in a wooded area in Lincolnton on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Bessette has been held in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges since May 30, 2026. According to Lincolnton Police, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office will serve the warrants, and Bessette will remain in their custody.
The investigation involved several partner agencies, including the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
