We talk a lot about how much we should be saving.

But what are you actually saving for?

Yes, retirement matters.

But so does…

That trip you’ve talked about forever. ✈️
Helping your kids.
Working fewer hours someday.
Buying the completely impractical convertible. 😉
Having the freedom to leave a job you hate.
Or simply having enough money to think, “Yep. I’m okay.”

Money isn’t the goal.

The life you’re building with it is.

And saving feels a whole lot less like a chore when there’s a dream attached to it.

So let’s hear it:

What’s something you’re saving for right now that has absolutely NOTHING to do with retirement?

I highly doubt “a car crashes into the bank’s generator” was on anyone’s bingo card for Friday… but here we are. 😂

I was coming back from lunch when I noticed a car sitting at a very awkward angle.

Definitely not in a parking spot.

It had crashed head-on into our generator.

I got out of my car and immediately smelled natural gas, which—as you can imagine—freaked me out just a little.

Thankfully, the driver was okay. But the building was evacuated, and my workday finished from home.

And because my financial-planner brain apparently never turns off, it got me thinking…

Life has a funny way of coming up with expenses we never actually thought to plan for.

We call it an “emergency fund,” but the truth is, none of us knows exactly what the emergency will be.

The furnace quits.

The dog eats something ridiculous.

Your transmission goes out.

A tree falls.

Or apparently… someone drives into your generator. 😂

The point of an emergency fund isn’t to predict what will go wrong.

It’s to make sure that when life gets weird, the financial part doesn’t have to become a crisis too.

So now I have to know…

What’s the weirdest unexpected expense you’ve ever had?

Fun Friday money debate…What’s something you used to think was a ridiculous waste of money… until you tried it yourself?...

Fun Friday money debate…

What’s something you used to think was a ridiculous waste of money… until you tried it yourself?

I have a few. 😂

One of mine?

Paying extra for a streaming service so I don’t have to watch ads.

Yep. Take my money.

I will GLADLY fork over a few extra bucks every month so I don’t have to sit through commercials.

And let me tell you… that investment REALLY pays dividends during election season. 😂

I’ve heard so many answers to this question over the years, and they run the gamut.

Cleaning services. TSA PreCheck. Grocery delivery. Expensive sheets. Better seats on a flight.

And let me assure you—there is NO judgment here.

I used to think the Apple Watch was one of the dumbest things in the world.

Guess what’s currently on my wrist?

An Apple Watch.

And not only did I buy the watch, I’ve apparently decided it also needs its own wardrobe of cute bands. 🤦‍♀️😂

Funny how quickly “Who would ever pay for that?” can turn into “You will pry this from my cold, dead hands.”

So let’s hear yours…

What’s something you used to make fun of spending money on, but now you can’t imagine giving up? 👇

Well, Mondays office looked a little different. 🎡

Kiwanis Club of Lima is one of the organizations I’m proud to devote some of my time to.

Everything Kiwanis does comes back to one mission: helping kids in our community.

And, as with pretty much every nonprofit, fundraising is part of the deal.

So every year, our club helps sell ride tickets at the Allen County Fair.

We get to provide a service at the fair AND raise money that goes right back into helping kids in our area.

Win-win.

Is selling ride tickets glamorous?

Absolutely not. 😂

But thankfully, the booth has A/C… and I will say the people-watching is TOP NOTCH.

All kidding aside, I’m grateful to be part of an organization filled with people who work so hard to make our community a little better.

So if you’re headed to the fair, come say hi!

I’ll be the one in the ticket booth enjoying the air conditioning and minding everyone’s business. 😂🎟️

Three years ago, I started Savvy Women Invest on Purpose with a dream in my heart… and hardly any cash in the budget. 😂

The idea was pretty simple:

Create a space where women could learn about money without feeling intimidated, talked down to, or sold to.

And then I just… started.

There were nights when it was me and two other women sitting around a table.

There were nights when we packed the room.

And somewhere along the way, this little idea became something pretty special.

Now we’re getting ready to kick off Season 4 of Savvy Women—and we’re doing it in a brand-new home!

As much as I’ll miss our old venue at The Met, I’m SO excited to bring Savvy Women to a beautiful new space that recently opened here in Lima: A Touch of Europe.

This gorgeous European bakery is welcoming the Savvy Women crew into its new location, and I’m incredibly grateful.

And we’ve got an AMAZING season planned.

New conversations. New topics. Plenty of good food. And the same mission we’ve had since day one:

Helping women feel more confident and empowered when it comes to their money.

I can’t wait to get started. ❤️

If you haven’t gotten an invitation yet—or you’ve been watching from the sidelines wondering what Savvy Women is all about—drop a comment below and I’ll send you the details.

Maybe Season 4 is the season you finally join us. 😊

Ok… I’ve got another financial question for you.

What is something you willingly spend MORE money on because you’ve learned the cheap version just isn’t worth it?

Listen, I am the girl who likes to save money.

Show me a good deal and I am ALL over it. I love thrift shopping, and the thrill of saving money makes me downright giddy. 😂

However…

Some things you just can’t skimp on.

And apparently, I like to learn this lesson the hard way.

Case in point: pots and pans.

I love to cook, so decent cookware matters to me. I bought a set of ceramic pans that were supposed to be healthier, durable, and less likely to chip.

They were also really reasonably priced.

Perfect, right?

Within a couple of weeks, they started chipping.

Ummm… ceramic coating in my dinner? No thanks. 😬

So I did what I probably should have done in the first place and bought good stainless steel pans.

More money? Yep.

But they’ll last longer, work better, and I’m not accidentally adding “ceramic flakes” to the ingredient list.

Sometimes trying to save money actually ends up costing us MORE.

And that’s something I think we forget when we talk about being “good with money.”

Being good with money doesn’t mean always choosing the cheapest option. It means spending intentionally.

So now I want to know:

What’s the thing—or service—you’ve learned is worth spending more on?

Drop yours in the comments. I have a feeling we’re going to get some good ones. 👇

So, the Mud Hens didn’t exactly cooperate with our plans Friday night.

And neither did Mother Nature. 😂

Our Toledo and Bowling Green offices hosted a client appreciation night at the Toledo Mud Hens game Friday.

I mean, what could be better? Good food, baseball, and great conversation.

The Weather Channel said no rain, but I guess that’s why they call it a weather prediction. 🤷‍♀️

The rain came down, but thankfully not enough to stop the game—although it did send me running for shelter for about 15 minutes.

And the Hens didn’t quite pull out the win against Iowa.

But none of that really mattered.

I got to meet some of my team members’ clients, catch up with others, and talk about life instead of just numbers.

Because one of my favorite parts of what I do is the relationships.

Our clients aren’t account numbers or portfolios. They’re people. People we get to know, root for, celebrate with, and hopefully make life a little easier for along the way.

And sometimes it’s nice to put the financial planning aside and just enjoy a baseball game together.

So regardless of the rain—or the runs—it was a pretty great night. ⚾️

Fun Friday question:

What is your completely irrational money hill you will die on? 😂

I’ll go first.

I refuse to spend $100+ on shoes that aren’t leather. I got that one from my mom. If I’m paying that much, they better be REAL.

Also…

If my Meijer pickup order isn’t large enough for free pickup, I will absolutely add another $5 worth of stuff to my cart rather than pay the $4.99 pickup fee.

Yes.

I realize the math. 😂

But somehow $5 worth of something I can actually use feels perfectly reasonable, while a $4.99 fee feels like highway robbery.

And THAT is why money is so interesting.

We like to think we’re completely rational with it.

We are not. 😂

Even financial advisors have their weird money rules.

So tell me:

What’s the money hill YOU will die on?

No judgment.

Okay…minimal judgment. 😂

I’ve been thinking about Jesse Cole and the Savannah Bananas lately.

If you don’t know their story, they didn’t become wildly successful by simply trying to be a better baseball team.

They asked a different question:

How do we create an experience people can’t stop talking about?

They obsess over their fans.
They pay attention to the little things.
They make it fun.
They listen.
And they’re constantly asking how they can make the experience better.

It got me thinking about my own industry.

What would happen if financial professionals stopped focusing so much on acquiring clients and started obsessing over creating raving fans?

Not by sending another birthday card or fancy market update.

But by making people feel genuinely cared for.

Calling when you don’t need anything.
Explaining something until it actually makes sense.
Remembering what matters to them beyond their account balance.
Being proactive instead of waiting for them to call.
Making conversations about money feel less intimidating—and maybe even enjoyable.

Investment performance matters.

Financial planning matters.

But people remember how you made them feel.

Did they feel heard?
Did they feel important?
Did they feel like you were paying attention?

I don’t think I’ll ever be dancing on a baseball field in a yellow tuxedo. 😂

But creating an experience people want to tell their friends about?

That’s a business model I can get behind.

Apparently, I’m dropping my daughter off at college on Wednesday.

Which seems a little ridiculous considering I’m pretty sure she was just in kindergarten about 10 minutes ago.

But here we are.

The dorm stuff is purchased.
The forms are filled out.
The car is about to be packed to the ceiling.

And I’m somewhere between incredibly excited for her and wondering who authorized time to move this fast.

This season has me thinking a lot about how strange it is to spend years preparing your kids to become independent… only to realize that if you did your job right, they actually do it. 😂

Rude.

But also pretty amazing.

She’s heading off to chase something she loves, meet new people, make mistakes, figure things out, and start building a life that belongs to her.

And as her mom, I get to learn a new job too.

How to cheer her on without hovering.
How to help without fixing everything.
How to let her go while reminding her she always has a place to come home to.

I have a feeling Wednesday is going to be a tough one.

But man, I’m proud of her.

Here’s to new chapters. ❤️
