❄️ Snow is on the way! ❄️
With winter weather expected this weekend, now’s the time to prepare:
• Protect your plumbing: Turn off exterior taps and remove and drain hoses, turn all indoor faucets to drip, and open cabinet doors that contain plumbing fixtures to prevent frozen/burst pipes.
• Shovel often--2 inches of snow is easier to clear than 6 inches--and shovel safely: push the snow instead of throwing, and avoid lifting your arms above chest level to protect your heart.
• Travel only if necessary. If you do have to travel, be sure to completely clear snow off your car (even the hard to reach spots!) give extra following distance, drive at lower speeds, and pay extra attention for black ice.
• Use space heaters and generators safely. Don't run generators indoors, and only plug space heaters in directly to the wall outlet.
• Prepare emergency kits for your home and car. Water, food/snacks, candles or flashlights, and extra blankets/clothes.
• Additional tips:
- Have something prepared to entertain yourself and/or kids. Books, board games, coloring books...boredom will set in fast if you lose power!
- Your car's floor mats can be used under your tires to gain traction if you get stuck.
- Fridge and freezer items can go outside if the power goes out.
✨This certainly isn't all you can do to prepare for the Snowpocalypse, so chime in if you have any other winter weather tips!✨
As always, we’re here if you have questions about your coverage or need help after the storm. Stay safe and warm this weekend!
