⛈️ Severe weather season is here, and now is the time to review your insurance coverage before a storm hits. Many homeowners don’t realize there can be major differences in how claims are paid depending on the coverage selected.

🏠 Replacement Cost Coverage vs. ACV (Actual Cash Value)

Replacement Cost Coverage helps pay to replace damaged property with new materials of similar kind and quality, without deduction for age or wear.

ACV coverage factors in depreciation, meaning older roofs, siding, or property may receive significantly less at claim time. A 15-year-old roof may only receive a fraction of the replacement cost under ACV coverage.

🌪️ Also make sure you understand your Wind & Hail Deductible.

Many policies today have separate deductibles for wind and hail damage, especially in severe weather areas. Some policies even use Percentage Deductibles instead of flat deductibles.

Example:
A 1% deductible on a $400,000 home = $4,000 out of pocket before insurance pays.
A 2% deductible = $8,000 out of pocket.

That can surprise homeowners after a storm if they were expecting a standard $1,000 deductible.

📞 If you are unsure what your policy covers, now is the perfect time to review it before severe weather arrives.

💥 Why an Independent Insurance Agent Matters More Than Ever 💥

If you’ve noticed your insurance rates going up lately… you’re not alone. But here’s what most people don’t realize:

👉 Who you buy your insurance FROM matters just as much as WHAT you buy.

A captive agent works for one company.
An independent agent works for YOU.

Here’s why that matters in today’s market:

✅ More Options, Better Protection
We shop multiple top-rated carriers to find the best coverage for your situation—not just what one company offers.

✅ We Can Pivot When Rates Increase
When one company raises rates (and many are right now), we can move you to another competitive option without sacrificing coverage.

✅ Customized Coverage
Every home, driver, and family is different. We build policies around YOUR needs—not a one-size-fits-all plan.

✅ Advocacy When You Need It Most
If you ever have a claim, you don’t have to go it alone—we’re in your corner.

🚨 In a time when insurance companies are tightening up and raising rates, having ONE option is a risk.

Having a trusted independent agent? That’s a strategy.

If you want a second opinion on your current coverage, we’re always here to help.

🚗 What is UM Coverage and Why It Matters More Than You Think

Most people assume the other driver's insurance will take care of everything after an accident… but that's not always the case.

👉 UM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage protects you and your passengers when the at-fault driver either:
• Has no insurance at all, or
• Doesn't have enough coverage to pay for your injuries.

💡 What does UM actually cover?
• Medical bills
• Lost wages
• Pain and suffering
• Long-term care or disability

⚠️ Real-world examples:

You’re hit by a driver who has no insurance.
Without UM: You’re stuck paying your own medical bills.
With UM: Your policy steps in and covers your injuries.

You’re seriously injured and the other driver only has $25,000 in coverage (which is very common).
Without enough UM: You’re responsible for the remaining $125,000.
With strong UM limits: You’re protected.

A hit-and-run accident: no driver found equals no liability coverage.
UM coverage is often your only protection.

The reality:
✅ Bottom line: UM coverage is one of the most important and most affordable protections on your policy.
It protects your family, your income, and your future.
If you haven’t reviewed your limits recently, it’s worth a quick conversation.

💡 What is a “Tort”… and why should you care?

You may hear the word “tort” when people talk about lawsuits or insurance, but what does it actually mean?

👉 A tort is simply a civil wrong, when someone’s actions (or negligence) cause harm to another person, and they can be held financially responsible.

🚗 Real-life examples:

* Someone causes a car accident by texting and driving
* A business fails to clean up a spill and someone slips and falls
* A dog bites someone

📌 Why this matters to YOU:
Tort law is what determines:
✔ Who is at fault
✔ Who pays for damages
✔ How much compensation is owed

And ultimately… it plays a big role in your insurance coverage and rates

⚠️ Bottom line:
Accidents happen, but making sure you’re properly covered when they do is what protects you financially.

📞 If you have questions about your coverage or want a second opinion, we’re always here to help.

🏠 Kentucky Fortified Roof Law – What It Means for You

There’s a big win for Kentucky homeowners that not many people are talking about yet 👇

The FORTIFIED Roof program is gaining traction across Kentucky, and it’s designed to make your home stronger against wind, hail, and severe storms — the exact things we see every year here in Central Kentucky.

💪 What is a FORTIFIED Roof?
It’s a roofing system built to a higher standard than typical roofs, helping prevent damage during storms and reducing the chances of costly claims.

💰 Why it matters to you:
• Potential insurance discounts with many carriers
• Better protection against storm damage
• Longer-lasting roof system
• Possible state incentives or grants (depending on availability)

📉 Insurance companies love these roofs because they reduce claims — and that can mean real savings for you over time.

👉 If you’re replacing your roof soon, this is something you should absolutely consider before making a decision.

At Summit Insurance Group, we stay on top of programs like this so our clients can make the best decisions for their homes and their wallets.

📞 Call us at 859-479-1234 or message us here — we’ll walk you through whether a FORTIFIED Roof makes sense for you and what kind of savings you might see.

📢 Kentucky Tort Reform – The Positive Impact for Policyholders

With the recent tort reform changes in Kentucky, there are a few key benefits that can work in your favor as a policyholder:

✔️ More stable insurance market
These changes can help insurance companies better predict losses, which often leads to a more stable and competitive marketplace.

✔️ Potential for more competitive pricing over time
As claim costs become more controlled, it can help slow down rapid premium increases and, in some cases, improve pricing options.

✔️ Faster claim resolutions
With fewer lawsuits and more structured processes, many claims may be resolved quicker—getting you paid and moving forward sooner.

✔️ Greater availability of coverage options
A more predictable legal environment can encourage more insurance companies to write business in Kentucky, giving you more choices.

✔️ Less fraudulent or inflated claims impacting your rates
Stricter rules can help reduce questionable claims, which helps protect honest policyholders from unnecessary rate increases.

💡 What this means for you:
A more balanced system can help keep insurance more available, affordable, and efficient for everyone.
