If your paycheck stopped next month, how long would your household in Lexington or the Midlands stay okay?

That is why disability insurance matters.

Many families in Lexington, Columbia, Irmo, Chapin, West Columbia, Cayce, and nearby communities assume employer coverage is enough until they see the actual numbers. Many self-employed business owners have no income protection at all.

We created a clear local guide that explains:

- What disability insurance covers
- Short-term vs. long-term disability
- What affects cost in South Carolina
- When individual or supplemental coverage makes sense
- Why own-occupation coverage matters for specialized professionals
- How to get a disability insurance quote near Lexington, SC

As summer approaches, calendars fill up quickly. This is often when routine health care gets put off, but taking care of these preventive services early can help keep you healthy all summer long. Many of these services are covered under health plans and are designed to detect potential issues early, before they turn into more serious health concerns.

Coverage varies, but common preventive services may include:

βœ… Annual wellness visits and routine physical exams.
βœ… Blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screenings.
βœ… Cancer screenings.
βœ… Well-child visits and developmental checkups.
βœ… Recommended vaccinations.
βœ… Preventive counseling related to nutrition, to***co use, or mental health.

Booking appointments in advance can also help avoid scheduling bottlenecks and missed coverage opportunities.

If you have questions about what your plan covers, don’t hesitate to reach out. Our team is here to help guide you.

I spoke with a guy last week. His dad had passed three weeks earlier. He had a folder of papers and said, "I don't really know what I'm doing here. Mom asked me to call."

His dad had a small term policy. Nothing fancy. Bought it back in the late 90s when the kids were still in school. Paid the premium every month for almost thirty years and never said a word about it to anybody.

That policy paid off the house.

His mom is 71. She has Social Security and a little bit from a part-time job she kept after she retired from the school district. She was already doing the math in her head about whether she could stay. Could she afford the property taxes alone. Could she keep the lights on. Was she going to have to call her kids and ask.

She doesn't have to call anybody now. She gets to stay in the house where she raised her kids. She gets to keep her dog and her garden and the kitchen where she knows where everything is.
That's what that policy did.

Her husband paid a small premium every month for thirty years so that on the worst day of her life, she would not also have to lose her home.

People think life insurance is about death. It isn't. It's about the people who keep living after.

I spent almost two hours on the phone with that son. He cried a little. I cried a little too if I'm being honest. We got the claim filed. He thanked me before we hung up.

There is a price that gets paid for the people we love to keep going after we're gone. Some people pay it ahead of time, quietly, every month, for decades, and never tell anybody. They just do it.
If you've been putting off a conversation about coverage, this is your reminder. Not because you're going to die tomorrow. Because somebody at your kitchen table deserves to keep their kitchen table.

Call me or call Jennifer. Or call anybody. Just have the conversation.

Chipper here, reporting from the shady spot in the yard. 🐾

Don't be that family.

Whether it's Medicare, Health, or Life coverage, we'll sit down with you and walk through what actually fits your situation. No pressure, no jargon, just a straight conversation about what makes sense.
Give us a call at 843-509-2462 or head to mauldininsurancegroup.com. We're based right here in Lexington and we help families all across the Midlands.

True story playing out somewhere every single day. Family dog, never bit anyone, gets spooked and nips a visiting kid. Stitches, a scar, and a phone call from an attorney.

Most homeowners policies max out around $300,000 in liability. A serious injury claim can blow right past that.

An umbrella policy adds another $1 million in protection on top of your home and auto for usually $200 to $400 a year. Worth a conversation if you own a home, have a teen behind the wheel, or have a dog in the yard.

Give us a call or send a message. We'll take a look at what you have now and tell you straight up whether an umbrella makes sense for your situation.

If you're on a Medicare Advantage plan in South Carolina, here's something worth knowing.

A lot of folks set up their Medicare plan years ago and haven't looked at it since. The plan worked fine the first year, the second year too, and now they just assume it still fits. That's how people end up surprised.

Medicare Advantage plans change every year. Networks shift. Drug formularies get updated. Copays go up or down. Extra benefits like dental and vision get added, dropped, or quietly capped at lower amounts. Sometimes a plan that was perfect three years ago is now costing somebody hundreds more than they realize.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: reviewing your plan doesn't mean changing it. Most years, I tell people their current plan is still the best fit and they don't need to do anything. That's the right answer most of the time. But you don't know unless you actually look.

A few questions worth asking yourself before the next open enrollment window:
β†’ Are all my doctors still in network?
β†’ Have any of my prescriptions moved to a higher cost tier?
β†’ Am I actually using the dental, vision, or OTC benefits I'm paying for?
β†’ Did my plan's star rating drop this year?
β†’ Have my health needs changed in a way that makes a different plan structure make sense?

If you're not sure on any of those, that's a free 20-minute phone call with us. No pressure. No pitch to switch plans. Just an honest look at what you've got and whether it still fits.

We're a local, independent agency based in Lexington serving folks all across South Carolina. Jennifer runs the Medicare side and has been doing this for years.
