2023 Changes coming to Medicare:

The Inflation Reduction Act that Congress passed last summer contains several provisions to reduce Medicare costs. Here’s the timetable for implementation.
2023
Drug companies must pay rebates to Medicare if their prices rise faster than inflation
Insulin co-pays limited to $35 per month for the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit
More vaccines covered by Medicare Part D
2024
5% coinsurance payment eliminated for Part D catastrophic coverage
Subsidy for Part D beneficiaries expanded to those earning up to 150% of the federal poverty line
2025
Out-of-pocket Medicare prescription drug costs capped at $2,000 annually
2026 and beyond
Medicare will begin negotiating the price of some prescription drugs. The law allows the program to negotiate prices for 10 drugs in 2026, another 15 in both 2027 and 2028, and 20 more in 2029.
These latest changes are especially meaningful for prescription drug coverage. Prescription medications represent 1 in 5 dollars beneficiaries spend on their out-of-pocket health care costs, according to the Commonwealth Fund. The fund says 1 in 10 Medicare beneficiaries report having left a prescription unfilled, or skipped a dose of medication, because they can’t afford it.
