In following with Administrative Professionals Day - here is our first secretary.
John C. Boude from 1878 -1885
He, along with William F Paxton, helped create our company.
He was a part of Stonewall Jacksons brigade.
He graduated from W&L.
He was a Lawyer at some point in his life.
While he was serving as our secretary he was also the Rockbridge County's circuit clerk for 34 years.
He build the "Boude-Deaver" house located on Main Street.
He died in 1896 and is buried just done the road from the office at the OakGrove Cemetary.

April 22 is Asministratvie Professionald Day.
Let's celebrate by meeting our current secretary - Amber Johnston. She started with Rockbridge Mutual Fire Ins. Co. in June of 2020. She loves her job with it's downtown, Lexington, office and the long history behind it. She has been working on researcing the history of the company and trying to come up with ways to keep it around another 148 years.

Captian John C. Boude was the first secretary of Rockbridge Mutual Insurance (as it was known in 1878). He helped J.H. Paxton create a fire insurance company for the locals which is still standing strong today. He served as secretary from 1878 - 1885 and during this time he also served as the Circuit Clerk for 34 years.

John Clinton Boude (1832-96) was not only the Rockbridge County clerk for 34 years but Michael Miley’s financial backer in 1866. Miley bought out his backer four years later. In 1874 Boude and his wife, Musadora Plunkett Boude, built the ornate Gothic Revival house, which has touches of Second Empire architecture too, on South Main Street that bears their name along with that of Charles Deaver, a merchant, real estate investor and civic leader, and Mildred Deaver, who (with their descendants) owned it for 62 years, from 1907 to 1969. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
