Living on the NC coast means boats are not a luxury around here. They are practically a way of life. 🚤

So before you head out on the water this summer, here is something worth knowing.

Most people assume their boat is covered under their homeowners policy. Sometimes a small vessel is, but usually with very limited coverage. Anything bigger, anything with a motor, or anything you take out regularly almost certainly needs its own dedicated boat policy.

I’m lucky to have been raised by my Dad (Howard) and have had the privilege of raising two amazing sons (Nate and Nick) and watch them grow into good men.

I'm going to say something that surprises almost every homeowner I meet in Brunswick County. 👇

Your homeowners insurance does NOT cover flooding.

Not a pipe burst. Not rain pouring in through the roof due to shingles being ripped off. I’m talking about rising waters that affect two or more properties or two or more acres that enter your home. In this scenario, you are not covered under a standard homeowners policy. That would need to be covered by a separate policy specifically for flood insurance.

In a county surrounded by water, rivers, and coastline, this is not a small thing.

Here's something else most people don’t know, but need to. You cannot buy flood insurance the day before a storm hits. There is typically a 30 day waiting period before it takes effect. Which means you need to be thinking about it before Arthur, Bertha, or any other 2026 storm has a chance to look at Brunswick County.

I woke up this morning still smiling and had to say something. 🌀🏆

Carolina's professional hockey team just won the hardest trophy to win in professional sports last night. 3-0. Dominant. Captain Jordan Staal took home the Conn Smythe Trophy. What a performance. What a leader.

We watched at a friend's house on a projector with our oldest son Nate and former intern Carter and moved inside when the rain came. 🌧️

Meanwhile our youngest son Nick was at the Lenovo Center watch party and sent us this video. Chills.

The desert never saw the storm coming. 🌀🔴⚫

North Carolina, this is OUR team and OUR moment. Enjoy every single second of it today. ❤️

We’ve been meaning to do this for a while, so here it is. Meet the team! 🎉

From left to right we have Debbie, Chris, Kelly, Kathleen, Josh (me), Haleigh, Heather and yes, that handsome fellow in the middle is Earl.

Earl isn’t just a decoration. He’s a piece of Airlie Gardens history. Every year Airlie Gardens hosts their beloved Art in the Park event where local artists paint and decorate squirrel sculptures displayed throughout the gardens. We fell in love with Earl (who was created and designed by Laura Kalina) at auction and instead of keeping him all to ourselves, we wanted to share him with our community and gave him a permanent home right here at our office in Brunswick Forest

He’s been greeting our customers ever since. And honestly? He’s the best team member we have. Never late, never complains, always smiling. 🐿️

This crew right here, Earl included shows up every single day for the people of Leland and Brunswick County. We are so grateful for each one of them and for every customer who trusts us to take care of what matters most.
