Lee County Sheriff’s Office Recognizes the Retirement of Chief Deputy Lewis W. Harris Jr.
Lee County, GA — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announces the retirement of Chief Deputy Lewis W. Harris Jr., effective Tuesday, December 30, 2025, concluding more than twenty-seven (27) years of dedicated and honorable service to the citizens of Lee County.
Chief Deputy Harris’ legacy of leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public safety will remain a lasting part of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Harris began his law enforcement career with the Albany Police Department in 1989 as a cadet assigned to the Records and Detective Divisions. He was promoted to patrolman on July 13, 1992, a position he held until December 30, 1993. From January 1, 1994, until August 2, 1998, he served as Vice President and Manager of Field’s Gas and Oil, Inc., in Leesburg, Georgia.
On August 3, 1998, Chief Harris began his career with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. On July 19, 2001, he was promoted to Investigator and reassigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. During his time as an investigator, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, distinguishing himself as a meticulous and accomplished investigator, before being promoted to Chief Deputy on January 1, 2009.
Throughout his tenure with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Deputy Harris served the Office of the Sheriff with honor and integrity, always ensuring that his employees were well cared for. He was a dedicated member of our team, leading with vigor, generosity, and genuine concern for his fellow law enforcement officers and the Lee County community. Chief Deputy Harris is also widely known for his quick-wittedness and great sense of humor, qualities that fostered morale, strengthened relationships, and supported those around him while maintaining the professionalism expected of his office.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office team extends its sincere gratitude to Chief Deputy Harris for his years of service and sacrifice. We wish him continued strength, good health, and fulfillment in his retirement. His contributions to this agency and to the citizens of Lee County will not be forgotten.
