Wow....what a tax season. It really was winter the entire season long (with a few teaser days), so the days seemed even longer than they were. They would have been worse if I didn't have an amazing team.
Gary kept us stocked in candy, made sure the dishwasher was run, and helped me resolve tax issues... He also had to tolerate all of us "girls", and put up with a fair amount of good natured ridicule.
Greer took on most of the responsibility for managing the operations of the office and did an outstanding job working with new and existing clients alike. Today, she even took over the final phase of e-filing the extensions, and made my last day of the season much easier.
This was Joni's first tax season, and her job is unlike others she has had before. In spite of the culture shock, she has stepped up and contributed without being asked. Last week, she worked a 12 hour day just to get returns printed and ready for signing.
Sharlene, our newest full-time employee, came to us in March, and even in that short amount of time, her willingness to work the extra hours to get 'er done did not go unnoticed.
Carol worked until the beginning of April, when she was "benched" with a broken arm. She has been with Gary many years, and works throughout the year as needed; I truly appreciate her loyalty and sense of humor.
Bailey works for us in between a busy school schedule and social life...on the dreary days, her cheerful attitude brightened the office. Her ability to learn quickly, under pressure was impressive, for sure.
Teena, Gary's wife, was recruited to help as needed, and we appreciated her willingness to "volunteer" her time.
My older two children, Alex and Ana, were so gracious to "come up here as quick as you can" to help me when we were in a pinch.
I can't tell you how important this team is to the success of the business. Many times, I saw them forget about themselves and "roll up their sleeves" to do what it took to provide support and exceptional client service. That made me smile. There is nothing more valuable to an organization than the synergy that comes from that kind of dedication.
I also am thankful for the veggie tray, candy, Starbucks coffee, homemade soup, cookies, barbeque, nuts, massage gift certificates, lunches, and goodie bags, brought in by clients and friends alike. (Note: I start my workouts again tomorrow.)
I'm grateful for the families we all have; they had to be extremely understanding at times. My children really do spend most of their days with dad once the season gets into full swing, and I'm blessed that he and I co-parent so well. I also can't forget the time he and Annalise made a cake and brought some to me; or the times he brought the kids up to eat dinner in my office because he knew how much I missed them.
Lastly, but not in the least at all, thank you to all the wonderful clients who we consider it an honor to serve. We appreciate your trust in us, and we value every single one of you. Our goal is to be your partners; helping you navigate the sometimes murky waters of taxes and finance. We will continue making exceptional client service and quality a top priority.
