25 years ago today... in Mrs. Winter's 8th-grade English class, I saw that image.
It was only for a split second... but it is forever seared into my memory.
I could walk to the exact spot today.
We weren't allowed to watch or see what was happening, since most of our teachers left the TVs off for the rest of the day.
But when I got home that day, I was like everyone else.
Shocked. Scared. Sad. Angry.
The images and stories started coming out. Everyone prayed there would be people pulled from the rumble.
We waited.
Hoped.
I started to notice things in the weeks that followed.
People were.... nicer. More patriotic than I had ever seen.
We had all gone through a trauma together.
The country was UNITED.
Today, on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, I am choosing to remember what this country is capable of.
What we showed in the days, weeks, and months that followed September 11, 2001.
It is needed during these times.
We're only divided if we want to be.
I hope you will join me to honor those who were lost.
Always remember, never forget.
God Bless America!
