Huntington Police Detectives and Forensic Investigators have been vigorously investigating the double homicide that occurred on February 20, 2026, at 2:30 a.m. in the 300 block of 14th Street. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Kevante White, 27, of Akron, Ohio.
On Saturday, February 21, Detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of Kevante White for two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of Adrian Phillips and Derious Johnson. An additional warrant for felony malicious wounding was also obtained. The malicious wounding charge stems from a third shooting victim in this incident. The third victim remains in stable condition at a Huntington hospital. The investigation revealed that White had traveled to Akron, Ohio, following the shooting. Investigators requested assistance from the US Marshals Service in locating and apprehending White in the Akron area.
On Sunday, February 22, White was located and arrested in Stark County, Ohio, by the US Marshals Service and the Stark County Sheriff's Office on two counts of first-degree murder and malicious wounding warrants. He will be held in a correctional facility in Stark County, Ohio, as a fugitive from justice awaiting extradition to West Virginia.
