We hope everyone is staying warm during this winter weather! We have some tips to help avoid frozen pipes:
🔹If you turn a faucet on and no water comes out, turn off your main water valve immediately. Should a pipe actually burst, this will limit the amount of water you will have to deal with.
🔹Turn up the heat in your home/business a few degrees. This will help to speed up the thawing.
🔹Open up your faucets. This will allow water to escape the pipe as it thaws.
🔹If you can tell where the freeze is, use a space heater, hair dryer, heat lamp or heated pipe tape to attempt to speed up the thaw.
🔹The quicker the freeze can be thawed the better chance the pipe will not actually burst.
🔹DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF FLAME OR PROPANE BURNER TO PERFORM THE THAWING. THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE!
🔹Ice in the pipe can actually block any cracks or breaks in line. Once thawed you could have water leaking from the pipe. Have bucket/mops available to clean up and get the pipe fixed prior to turning on main water valve.
Should you have a loss, you can report a claim anytime in the State Farm app, or by calling 1-855-259-8568.
