A little Friday fun…tax style
“What is better? Standard mileage rate or actual expenses?” This is a question that we deal with almost on the daily! My answer…well…you can see below. I have told contractors for years to drive a Prius or some such small car for their service rigs!
At 50+ miles per gallon and the IRS mileage rate at $.76/mile…you are going to write off $7,600 if you only drove 10,000 in the year.
Your cost to operate? $1,000 for the car, $800 in fuel, $600 in insurance, and $300 in maintenance. $2,700. That is. And next year, you won’t have to buy the car!
I’d be taking the standard mileage rate on this one, for sure!
(…I’m not too sure how it will do for your contractor street cred…but…the write off is probably worth whatever you lose in image.)
