The City of Pembroke Pines is proud to be recognized as an Autism-Friendly City by the Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD), a collaborative initiative of the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University.

An autism-friendly city works to reduce barriers and create meaningful opportunities for individuals with autism and related disabilities to participate fully in community life.

Through staff training, increased awareness, and inclusive practices, we are working to make everyday experiences more accessible for individuals and families throughout Pembroke Pines.

As part of this ongoing commitment, the City of Pembroke Pines has implemented initiatives including:

💬 Communication boards at parks
🧩 Ongoing autism training for City staff
🤫 “Quiet Zones” at large City events held at City Hall

If someone calls saying they're from your bank's fraud department, hang up and call the number on the back of your card.

Our detectives are seeing a scheme that works like this: a caller poses as a representative from a real, well-known bank. They tell the victim their account has been compromised. They sound calm, professional, and urgent all at once. Then they instruct the victim to withdraw cash, or to hand over a debit card, so the "compromised" funds can be secured.

A courier — sometimes a rideshare driver who has no idea what they're carrying — shows up at the door to collect it.
These schemes target older adults specifically, and they cross state lines.

Lauderhill detectives have worked cases connected to victims hundreds of miles from here.

Here is what banks do not do:
❌ They do not send anyone to your home to collect cash or cards
❌ They do not ask you to withdraw money to "protect" it
❌ They do not ask for your PIN, your full account number, or a code texted to your phone
❌ They do not tell you to keep the call secret from your family

If you get a call like this: HANG UP. Don't press a number, don't stay on the line to argue. Call your bank directly using the number printed on your card or statement — not a number the caller gives you.
Then call us at 954-764-4357. Even if you didn't lose money, the report helps.
