If you asked my younger self what I wanted to be, it was always a musician, songwriter, or rockstar.

Although I didn't get to S**C via my music (LOL), I was able to finally get on stage via the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation's annual meeting.

It was a great event highlighting their work and economic development going on in the region.

This past year, I’ve attended more funerals than I’d like to count. Each one a reminder that grief is hard.

I've seen a few times, my business, that left families scrambling to find documents, insurance info, or even simple instructions about what needs to happen next. All while dealing with loss.

“Life’s a journey, not a destination...”

Funny, I remember when that song came out.
Didn’t realize that was 30+ years ago.

Then I came across the attached article in Kiplinger talking about how retirement isn’t a finish line, it’s an endless game.

Kind of the same idea, just showing up in a different place.

We spend so much time planning for the moment we “arrive”…
but life keeps asking us to keep going.

30 years ago I liked the song, and as I get older and work with more clients, the lyrics hit a little different.

I just completed my TPCP (Tax Planning Certified Professional) designation from the American College of Financial Services.

Sometimes the best intentions create the highest hurdles. In New York, that’s very real for advisors trying to serve clients efficiently.

Yesterday in Albany, our NY FINSECA team worked to remove some of those unnecessary hurdles, helping make it simpler to offer solutions without compromising consumer protections.
What makes this work these people did even more meaningful is that these advisors could have been building their own practices, but they chose to build the profession as well.

It’s the quiet work most people never see: navigating regulations, untangling red tape, and showing up on behalf of both the profession and the clients we serve.

For everyone who stepped up and led...Even when no one asked them to.

As a financial advisor, I get the privilege of seeing every stage of life up close. The ambition of your 20s. The grind of your 30s and 40s.
The reflection, responsibility, and untapped potential that shows up later.

Looking back, 2025 was a year that changed how I see life and work.

Looking around, it suddenly hit me: I might be the oldest person in the room, and that, in your 50s, comes the sobering realization that there may be more of your career behind you than in front.

There’s no ceremony when you become the adult in the room. No baton is passed. You just wake up one day and realize people expect you to know, to decide, to carry the weight, and the encouragement that once fueled you has faded.

At 30, when you knew something, people noticed.
At 50, they assume.

Competence becomes the baseline. Responsibility increases. Recognition often disappears. And those carrying increased responsibility still need the “kudos” that doesn’t come as often.

We spend a lot of time investing in youth, shaping the next generation — and we should. But we rarely talk about the pressure on the people doing the shaping, parents, teachers, managers, mentors, retirees who still have so much to give.

While time is short, don’t keep the kudos to yourself.
Even leaders, parents, and mentors need to know they are doing a good job, holding the burden they inherited…because one day it will be yours.

Recognizing and encouraging them matters more than we often realize.

My hope is that as we reach forward, we pause to thank the people on whose foundation and guidance we stand and that younger generations learn to carry the baton with both ambition and gratitude.

I’ve always believed that the work we do as financial professionals is bigger than individual clients...it’s about shaping an industry that can truly serve people. That’s why I’m honored to have been nominated as Vice Chair of the NY Advisory Board for Finseca.

Growing up watching my dad in politics, he always said: if you’re not telling your story, someone else will. That lesson has stayed with me as I advocate on behalf of our industry at both the state and federal level, fighting for policies that help financial advice be accessible to all.

At the same time, I get to see that work come to life every day in my client relationships; helping people plan, prepare, and achieve their financial goals. Organizations like Finseca make it possible to do both: strengthen the profession and empower those we serve. I’m looking forward to continuing the work of those who built the foundation we stand on today.

This past week in Dallas, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 20th Anniversary Conference for our planning system—a philosophy that has transformed countless lives, including my own.

Surrounded by friends, mentors, and some of the brightest minds in the industry, I was reminded why growth is a never-ending journey. Each conversation, each session, and each shared experience reinforced my passion for helping clients build financial security and a future they can count on.
