In the 1980s, mortgage rates reached levels that would sound almost unbelievable to many homebuyers today.

So when we compare generations, looking at the price of the house alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
Lower home prices. Much higher interest rates.

🚨 90% → 50%. What happened?

If you were born in the 1940s, you had a 90% chance of earning more than the previous generation.

For those born in the 1980s? That dropped to 50%.

So… did Baby Boomers really have it easier? 👀

Housing was cheaper—but mortgage rates were dramatically higher. Pensions were more common—but every generation faced a different financial reality.

Maybe the real question isn’t who had it easier.

It’s what can we learn from them?

$100K? $200K? What Does “Middle Class” Even Mean Anymore?

It's a question I've been hearing more and more.

The answer isn't as simple as picking an income number.

A $100,000 salary can provide very different lifestyles depending on where you live, the size of your household, your debt, and how much your spending increases as your income grows.

That's where lifestyle inflation can become a problem. You earn more, but the house gets bigger, the car gets nicer, dinners get more expensive—and somehow there still isn't much left at the end of the month.

So maybe we're asking the wrong question.

Instead of only asking “Am I middle class?”, we should also ask:

What is my income actually doing for me?

Is it helping you save, invest, reduce debt and build financial security—or are you still living paycheck to paycheck?
