๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโš“ A Beautiful Family Day at the Tall Ships โš“๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This weekend, our family had the opportunity to visit the incredible Tall Ships in New Orleans as part of the celebration honoring the 250th birthday of our nation. Standing along the Mississippi River and seeing these magnificent vessels up close was both inspiring and humbling.

The craftsmanship, history, and stories behind each ship served as a reminder of the courage, determination, and spirit that helped shape America. Watching families, children, and visitors explore the ships together made the experience even more special.

There is something remarkable about seeing these towering masts against the New Orleans skyline and reflecting on the generations who have come before us. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together, learn a little history, and celebrate the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring these historic vessels to our city and create such a memorable experience for families across our community.

Happy 250th Birthday, America! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In Louisiana, cemeteries were never treated like forgotten places. โšœ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Families regularly visited tombs to:
Clean them.
Repaint them.
Pray beside them.
Leave flowers.
And maintain connections to generations buried long before them.

Because of Louisianaโ€™s above-ground burial traditions and strong Catholic, Creole, African, and French influence, cemeteries became deeply woven into everyday community life.

Children often grew up learning:
Family history.
Storm stories.
Religious customs.
And cultural traditions while walking through cemeteries beside parents and grandparents.

To outsiders, the traditions sometimes felt unusual.

But for many Louisiana families, caring for the dead was simply another way of caring for family itself.

It was such a rewarding week working alongside our representative in West Louisiana. Every day, she serves funeral homes and families with compassion, care, and a true commitment to helping people make the best decisions for their loved ones.

At NextGen, we believe every family deserves to understand their options and feel supported through lifeโ€™s most difficult moments. Our role is not just about planning โ€” itโ€™s about being present, offering guidance, and standing beside our partner funeral homes and the families they serve when they need us most.

Grateful for the relationships we continue to build and the opportunity to make a difference in the communities we serve every single day.

Most funeral directors we talk with don't really have a marketing problem.

They have a "this feels wrong" problem.

There's a quiet tension in this profession that people outside it don't see. You're called to sit with families in the hardest moment of their lives. You hold space when no one else can.

And then someone tells you that you also need to "build your brand." It's no wonder it feels off.

But here's what I keep noticing about the funeral homes that families turn to again and again. They're not the ones with the loudest marketing. They're the ones who quietly show up in their community long before anyone needs them.

A small gathering for widowed neighbors in November.

A follow-up call to a family three months after the service, just to check in.

A website that loads fast and tells the truth about who you are.

A preneed conversation that feels like care, not closing.

None of this is marketing in the traditional sense. It's presence. It's the slow, steady work of being known and trusted in a place.

And I think that's what most funeral directors actually want anyway.

Not more leads.
Not louder ads.

Just a way to be known by the families they're already serving, before grief makes the choice for them.

Preneed isnโ€™t really about a contract. Itโ€™s about peace before the pressure. A lot of people assume preplanning is just about making funeral decisions ahead of time.

Preneed gives families clarity when they would otherwise be guessing. It helps children understand what their parent wanted. It gives spouses fewer decisions to carry. It allows siblings to move forward with more confidence and less uncertainty.

It creates room for families to be present with each other when the time comes. For funeral homes, the way this conversation is handled matters.

Families donโ€™t need pressure.
They need guidance.
They need a calm conversation.

They need someone who can explain their options clearly and respectfully.

At NextGen Legacy Planning, we help funeral homes support those conversations with training, materials, and steady agent support.

Because preneed isnโ€™t about selling harder. Itโ€™s about serving earlier.

And when itโ€™s done right, families feel cared for long before they ever walk through the door in a moment of need.

She followed her father into funeral service, became one of the first female regional managers in her organization, won top awards year after year, volunteered internationally, and then decided to build something of her own from scratch.

Rachel Moring is the founder and CEO of NextGen Legacy Planning, and this profile is a great read for anyone who wants to know where the next generation of funeral service leadership is coming from.

A new face.
A new company.
A new promise.

Thatโ€™s why trust doesnโ€™t start with a contract. It starts with how the agent shows up. The best preneed agents donโ€™t begin by pitching.

They begin by listening.
They learn the funeral homeโ€™s story.
They ask what families in that community care about.

They understand how the director prefers to serve, communicate, and follow up. Then they show up consistently.

Not just when thereโ€™s a sale to write.
Not just when a lead is warm.
They check in.
They follow through.

They support the funeral homeโ€™s process instead of trying to replace it. That same approach matters with families. Preneed should feel like education and guidance, not pressure.

Families need space to ask questions, understand their options, and make decisions with confidence.

The right response is simple.

That kind of honesty builds more trust than any script ever could.

The takeaway is this:

Preneed agents who build lasting careers donโ€™t do it by pushing harder. They do it by earning trust.

With funeral directors.
With families.
With the community.

Thatโ€™s the kind of agent NextGen believes in supporting.
