A hit-and-run can leave you feeling overwhelmed, but taking a few organized steps can help you document what happened.

Once urgent medical needs have been addressed, write down every detail you remember, including the vehicle's color, make, model, license plate, damage, and direction of travel. Photos, nearby security cameras, dashcam footage, and witness information may also be helpful when filing a report. 📝

⚠️ In the Las Vegas area, the department you contact depends on where the incident occurred. LVMPD handles incidents within its jurisdiction, while freeway crashes should be reported to Nevada State Police. Nevada drivers may also need to submit an SR-1 crash report within 10 days when a collision was not investigated at the scene and involved injury, death, or over $750 in damage.

Afterward, contact your insurance company and provide the report number and documentation you collected. 📲 It may also be a good time to review your auto insurance information and ask how hit-and-run incidents may be handled under your policy.

This National Nonprofit Day, we’re shining a spotlight on Pawtastic Friends and the meaningful work they do for homeless rescue dogs in the Las Vegas community. 🐾❤️

Through enrichment training programs, professional trainers, and dedicated volunteers, Pawtastic Friends helps dogs build the skills, confidence, and guidance they need as they get ready for adoption. 🐕‍🦺 Their programs include basic training, advanced training, and aquatics, while also providing food, toys, medical care, and other essential supplies.

Every donation and volunteer effort brings these deserving dogs one step closer to finding a loving home and beginning their next chapter. 🏡🐶
