One of my favorite quotes from performance artist Marina Abramovic is "Art comes from life, not the studio." Being an artist is clearly an occupation that requires a lot of creativity, but I'd argue that sales can be an artform, too. It is so easy to fall into the trap of repetition - especially in sales, where repetition (e.g., simply making a large volume of phone calls where you just about introduce yourself) is a big (and inevitable!) part of being successful at the job. But this type of productivity is a two-edged sword, because you also need to be able to tap into each client's particular needs, and figure out how to come up with a solution that can best meet those needs.
For me, how much I needed to infuse my work with inspiration became apparent a couple of weeks ago, when upper management invited all the team leaders to a trip to Canto, Mexico. Being able to step out of the office walls and meet, learn and get inspired by the many incredible people that all work under the USHealth group, has really invigorated my mind. I feel a lot more "in it" (or, to quote another successful woman, "about it") than before the trip, and the communication and problem solving between me and my team have been so dynamic, and resulted in some really cool strategic work.
So, to sum up, productivity is not necessarily perfectly equated with the office hours clocked, but also has to do with nourishing your mind: reading a good book, going out in nature or doing some volunteer work (few things is as good at making you step out of your bubble as helping out your local community in some way!)
Or going on a trip to Canto! ;)
Thank you so much to everyone that made this trip the experience that it was!!
Aiming to bring the whole team next time :D
