"Can't I just file the Discover claim myself?"
Yes. The official portal is free. Anyone can file.
Should you? Depends on your operation. Here's what we see merchants miss when they self-file:
* Multiple Merchant IDs (MIDs) - Most businesses changed processors at least once over 17 years. Each MID is its own eligibility check. Self-filers often only claim under their current MID.
* Acquired or divested entities - If you bought or absorbed a business, that entity's MIDs may be claimable under your TIN.
* DBAs and multi-location operations - Each location can have its own MID.
* Defect notices and follow-up - The administrator may flag your filing - and you'll have a clock to respond. Miss the response window, lose the claim.
