Why You Still Need Workers’ Comp (Even Without W-2 Employees)

Many small business owners think “I don’t need Workers’ Comp — I don’t have employees.”
But here’s the truth…

Even if you only work with 1099 contractors, family members, or part-time helpers, you could still be legally or financially exposed if someone gets hurt while working for you.

Here’s why ⤵️
✅ 1099s aren’t always exempt. Some states or carriers may reclassify them as employees if they perform regular work under your control.
✅ Jobsite requirements. Many property managers, general contractors, or clients require proof of Workers’ Comp before allowing you on site — even if you’re a solo operator.
✅ Medical and liability protection. If you get injured while working, a Workers’ Comp policy can cover your medical bills and lost wages (some carriers offer “owner’s inclusion” options).
✅ Peace of mind. Without coverage, one accident could mean lawsuits, unpaid medical bills, or being disqualified from future jobs.

Bottom line — Workers’ Comp isn’t just a “compliance” policy. It’s a smart layer of protection for your business, your contracts, and your peace of mind.

If you’re unsure whether you really need one (or how to set it up properly for your situation), I’d be happy to review it for you.

🏠 Nevada Landlords, Take Note!
You’re not imagining it — more and more insurance companies are pulling back or flat-out refusing to write landlord/rental property policies in Nevada. Here’s why 👇

🔥 Rising wildfire and weather risks have pushed carriers to cut back exposure in high-risk areas.
🧾 Rental properties are viewed as higher-risk (tenant turnover, maintenance issues, claim frequency).
💸 Costs are up, underwriting is tighter, and if insurers can’t charge enough to stay profitable, they simply stop offering those policies.

So what does this mean for you?
✅ Fewer options and stricter underwriting
✅ Higher premiums or deductibles
✅ More scrutiny on property condition, roof age, and upkeep

My advice:
• Don’t wait for your renewal to surprise you — review your policy now.
• Keep your property in top shape (especially roof & landscaping).
• Work with an independent broker who can shop multiple carriers and help you stay protected even as the market tightens.

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Heroes This Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed to protect our freedom.

Because of their courage, we live in a country where opportunity, faith, and family can thrive. Because of their service, generations after them can dream freely.

To every veteran — we say thank you. Your strength, discipline, and love for country inspire us all.

If you see a veteran today, take a moment to shake their hand, say thank you, or simply let them know their service is not forgotten. ❤️🤝

Hey friends — quick public-service announcement: Starting November 1, the federal program known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is slated to pause because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

So if you hear the “thank you for using your EBT card” goblin has taken a day off, you now know why.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Your October benefits are safe for now — you can still use what’s already been loaded.
✅ The new benefits for November may be delayed or not show up at all until this situation is resolved.
✅ If you’re expecting a benefit, now is a good time to check your balance, plan accordingly, and maybe raid the pantry like it’s Black Friday (but softer).

Think of it as our government temporarily “switching to airplane mode” — the WiFi of grocery benefits might be down until Congress hits “resume.”

If you or someone you know may be impacted:
• Check your state’s SNAP/EBT status for updates.
• Contact local food banks or assistance programs (because yes, some are already gearing up).

Feel free to share this post — especially if you know someone who might be caught off-guard. Better to be “in-the-know” than wondering why your grocery budget suddenly took a vacation.

(And if Congress does find that “Resume” button faster than a golfer chasing a shanked ball, we’ll all breathe a little easier.) 🏌️
