🌟Celebrating a Successful Financial Literacy Month at Escobedo Middle School! 🌟
This April, I had the privilege of leading a Financial Literacy Month initiative focused on empowering our Las Vegas Community and specifically middle schoolers with essential money skills—thanks to a powerful introduction last year by our OneChase partner, Candace Johnson, to Mrs. Lee, the dedicated librarian at “Escobedo Middle School”
đź’ˇWhy Middle School?
Did you know that over 20% of Nevada’s population is under 18, and in Las Vegas, middle schoolers make up a significant portion of our youth? Starting financial education early is key to building lifelong healthy money habits. My goal: Start them young, so they grow up confident and capable.
đź’°What We Did:
Over three action-packed days, we reached 671 students with interactive sessions on:
-Saving & Budgeting
-Needs vs. Wants
-An introduction to credit and why it matters
-Family budgeting on a minimum wage, single-income household
-Discovering each student’s “Money Mammal” and starting conversations about money values
The energy, curiosity, and engagement from these students were truly inspiring. We planted seeds that will grow into financial confidence and resilience for years to come.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the power of partnership, thank you, Candace Johnson for the introduction that made this collaboration possible.
Thank you, Austin Madsen & Heather Wright Guerrero for your unwavering support during these sessions.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Lee and Principal Brian Brill at Escobedo Middle School for welcoming us and championing financial literacy for your students.
Let’s Keep the Momentum Going!
This experience reinforced the importance of community collaboration. If you’re passionate about financial education or want to bring similar programs to your school or organization, let’s connect! Together, we can empower the next generation—one lesson at a time.
