𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 👎
It's only a small move, but for the first time in a few weeks mortgage rates moved slightly higher. The main reasons were the lack of progress in negotiations with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remaining closed.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 ⚠️
Rates this week may creep higher and could see bigger day-to-day moves than we've seen over the last few weeks. Expect rates to react to Fed Chair Powell's press conference after this week's Fed meeting, as well as headlines about negotiations with Iran and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

📈 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸:
• The Middle East: The conflict with Iran continues to drag on without a resolution in sight, with negotiations stalling. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to commercial traffic, and we are not likely to see mortgage rates move much lower from here until it reopens.
• Economic data: Once again, this week has only a few reports that may influence mortgage rates, all coming near the end of the week.
• Fed Meeting: The Fed is not expected to make any changes to its policy rate this week, but rates could react to comments made during Fed Chair Powell's press conference.

🏡 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹 👍
Rates continued to move lower for the third straight week, making the biggest gains on Friday after Iran announced it would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic. Although still higher than before the conflict began, rates are well below the highest levels seen just a few weeks ago.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 👍
Rates this week will continue reacting to headlines about the ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and are in a good position to creep lower if progress toward a final resolution continues. Don’t expect rates to only move lower, though, as we could still see some day-to-day increases while negotiations continue, like early in the week when Iran announced it would no longer allow ships through the strait, pressuring rates.

📈 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸:
• The Middle East: Even when a resolution doesn’t seem close, markets remain optimistic the conflict with Iran will be resolved soon, helping both stocks and bonds and supporting mortgage rates. As long as the ceasefire holds, we could continue to see rates improve.
• Economic data: There is very little economic data this week, and it will not play much of a role in mortgage rates.
