What is the Extra Help Program?

It is a federal Medicare program designed to help beneficiaries with limited income and resources cover the costs of their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. That includes help with premiums, deductibles and copays.

Many New Mexicans who qualify for Extra Help don't even know the program exists. If prescription drug costs are a burden, this program could make a real difference.

What is NOT covered by original Medicare?

What is a Part B late enrollment penalty?

Missing your Medicare Part B enrollment window means a 10% penalty is added to your standard premium for every full 12-month period you delayed enrollment. That penalty stays with you permanently for as long as you have Part B.

Many people assume retiree coverage or COBRA protects them from this penalty. It does not.

Knowing your enrollment window and acting on time is one of the most important steps you can take when approaching Medicare eligibility.

Medicaid rules are changing! Adults ages 19–64 who do not have an exemption will need to complet work or activity requirements to keep Medicaid coverage.

Update your contact information at YES.NM.GOV in the chat, by calling 1-800-283-4465, or by visiting your local HCA Income Support division office.
