The Laredo Mortgage Department Staff presented and sponsored lunch at a First Time Homebuyers class this past Saturday at NeighborWorks Homeownership Center Laredo. The class included about 30 attendees. It was a productive class with lots of questions and involvement on behalf of the attendees. It’s heartwarming to be able to guide these individuals into homeownership which in our opinion is everyone’s dream.

In spite of miserable weather this morning, TCB-Somerset’s Diane Nieto worked with the San Antonio Food Bank to distribute food packages at the Somerset Senior Citizen Center, a daycare facility for the elderly. Simultaneous to sharing the food, she also instructed the clients regarding financial literacy. Both food security and financial illiteracy are challenges to a large percentage of our seniors and TCB does what we can to assist them with these critical challenges.

Earlier today, TCB-McAllen’s Connie Gonzalez and Noemi Montes conducted a Financial Literacy Presentation at Austin Middle School in San Juan, TX. The presentation was delivered to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and focused on the importance of saving money, establishing credit, how to write a check and understanding banking products and services. The students were highly engaged, asking insightful questions throughout the session. A variety of topics were covered including tips for saving and the basics of credit and it was obvious that the students were eager to learn more about managing their finances.
To wrap up the presentation, the TCB ladies provided the students with a word search worksheet featuring key financial terms. They had fun with it and were excited to earn a small prize for completing the activity. TCB believes that FINANCIAL LITERACY is the key to future financial security for these students and their families!
