Today marks a significant milestone—40 years since I began my career in the insurance industry as a New York Life Insurance Agent.
The training I received was truly exceptional and laid the foundation for a lifelong passion. I am grateful to still be doing what I love every single day.
Statistically, I wasn’t expected to succeed. I was a 21-year-old, unmarried woman—an unlikely candidate in an industry that, at the time, saw few like me. In fact, I wasn’t expected to pass the aptitude test. But I scored 17 out of 19, and that result gave me a chance. At the time, there were only four female agents in the New Orleans New York Life office, and I was proud to be one of them.
After 19 years with New York Life, I transitioned into the employee benefits side of the business, which truly captured my interest. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey.
One of the most meaningful moments of my career was writing my very first policy—for Kurt, who wasn’t yet my husband at the time. He was a tough sell, but clearly, my persuasion paid off in more ways than one. See attached picture with my first policy.
Over the years, this career has given me so much: the opportunity to grow, to make a difference, and to now work alongside my daughter Kelsey. Together, we are honored to serve our clients, many of whom have become like family. They’ve supported us as much as we’ve supported them.
I’ve learned countless lessons from my clients and continue to learn something new every day. To all of you who have been—and continue to be—clients: THANK YOU. Your trust and support are the reason we’re here.
Here’s to 40 years of a career I love—and with no plans of retiring anytime soon.
