JUST IN - Tropical Depression Five has formed, upgraded from a Potential Tropical Cyclone.

Heads up in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana! Tropical Storm Edouard likely to form in the Northwest Gulf. Landfall is expected Tuesday morning/mid day near High Island/Port Arthur/Beaumont, likely as a weak to moderate tropical storm with winds around 45 mph.

I’d still be watching closely in southwest Louisiana too as a few models bring the system a bit further east near the TX/LA state line.

Some quick strengthening is possible given its small size, with a moderate to strong tropical storm as the potential higher-end scenario. A brief run at hurricane intensity cannot be completely ruled out, but that outcome remains less likely.

The main impacts will be heavy rain, localized flash flooding and gusty winds. Hot spots of 4-6” likely where the center comes ashore. Weather Prediction Center has placed a Slight Risk(Level 2 out of 4) for flash flooding Tuesday-Wednesday.
