CMS Releases Draft Guidance for the Third Cycle of Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program to Lower Drug Prices for American Patients
For the first time, drugs under Medicare Part B (administered in clinical settings) are included, alongside Part D medications. The guidance aims to enhance transparency in the negotiation process while preserving incentives for pharmaceutical innovation.
- CMS will announce up to 15 drugs selected for negotiation by February 1, 2026.
- Negotiations will occur during 2026.
- Negotiated prices will take effect on January 1, 2028.
CMS is seeking comments on the draft guidance to refine the negotiation process. The public comment period is open until June 26, 2025, at 11:59 PM PT.
