🚨 Attention Small Business Owners and Industry Colleagues 🚨

For years, we've heard the same frustration about finding health insurance: "How am I supposed to predict my income for next year? It really depends."

In the individual health insurance market, where household income determines access to affordable coverage, this uncertainty can feel like a guessing game. That’s why I’m proposing a change to Congress to shift health insurance subsidies from being based on next year’s income (which is often unpredictable) to last year’s income. No more guesswork. No more IRS surprises if your year turns out better than expected.

Making this shift not only brings stability to our many clients, but actually brings accountability to the government, where they are often blind to the true cost of healthcare many of our client's are facing.

I entered this industry to help people navigate the healthcare maze, and this is one of the biggest pitfalls. I'm fighting to make a change.

Are you attending the ACA Health Summit and Medicarians in Las Vegas next month? If so, I'd love for you to say hello if you see me there!

2023 was a hectic year for ACA brokers, especially with the introduction of new broker consent regulations. I'm thankful for my involvement with National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals - NABIP, where we took the initiative to draft and submit a template for a paper consent form that brokers could use ahead of the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), ensuring full compliance.

Moreover, I'm proud of my work at SnapHealth, which marked our first public unveiling since our quiet inception in 2018. We developed a nimble digital system to manage consent processes for both brokers (Step 1) and eligibility (Step 2). Through the SnapHealth for Brokers Consent Form, we supported 700 brokers and facilitated 40,000 consumers in documenting informed consent efficiently!

At the ACA Summit, I'll be representing NABIP and participating in a panel discussion on CMS compliance. We will be focusing on the importance of maintaining ongoing consent for Special Enrollment Period (SEP) and renewal enrollments. I aim to keep the discussion lively and informative.

It's reassuring to know that influential organizations like NABIP are supporting community-based brokers as we navigate these changes together. I'm looking forward to connecting with many of you at the event!

🌟 Exciting Week Ahead in Washington D.C.! 🌟

Next week marks a pivotal journey to the heart of our nation's capital, Washington D.C., where I will be advocating for a cause close to my heart - the transformative role of insurance brokers in healthcare policy.

πŸ—£οΈ The week kicks off with a significant conference (NABIP CapCon!) where leaders and experts in healthcare come together to discuss, deliberate, and shape the future of healthcare policy. It's a unique opportunity to share insights, foster collaborations, and highlight the critical role of insurance brokers in ensuring accessible healthcare for all.

πŸ›οΈ Following this enriching experience, I have the honor of a personal tour of the White House. It's not just a visit to a historic landmark; it's a reminder of the responsibility we carry in advocating for policies that impact lives across the nation.

🀝 The agenda also includes crucial meetings with distinguished members of both the House and Senate. These conversations are centered around reinforcing the importance of insurance brokers in the healthcare system and advocating for policies that support our mission to serve more families and communities efficiently.

πŸ’‘ Additionally, a strategic meeting with the Department of Health is set to discuss how policy innovations can expand healthcare coverage and affordability for families nationwide.

My mission in D.C. is clear - to underscore the vital contributions of insurance brokers in the healthcare sector and to push for policies that ensure comprehensive, accessible, and affordable healthcare for every family.

Stay tuned for updates, insights, and progress from what promises to be an enlightening week in Washington D.C. Together, we can make a difference in the healthcare landscape.

Hey, Pennsylvanians!
Do you need your 1095-A (Health Insurance Marketplace Statement) to file your taxes?

We are more than willing to help! HIPPA and your security is our top priority, so we've created this form to get consent to access your insurance record. We can obtain that 1095 and share it with you via email.

If we are already your designated broker on file in Pennie, you do NOT need to complete another consent form. Just shoot us an email asking for your 1095-A.

🚨 If you are enrolled in a Highmark plan, your personal information may have been compromised. Expand to learn more...

⚠ Highmark says it will notify everyone potentially affected with a letter in the mail, adding the compromised data could include names, enrollment information, claim information, prescription information, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, passport numbers, social security numbers and financial information.

Whale passed along a few tips to get people started if they fall victim to the breach:
🚩 Call the three credit bureaus and freeze your credit at no cost to stop any new credit accounts from being opened in your name
🚩Change your passwords
🚩 Pay attention to your bank accounts and credit card statements for the foreseeable future

πŸ“’ ARE YOU ENROLLED YET ON PENNIE? IF YES, THIS IS FOR YOU.

β€Ό Everyone in PA is receiving the email below... DO NOT FRET. If you go to your account on Pennie, you will see that your plan is selected.

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ So what is going on?

🎯On November 1st, 2020 Pennsylvania switched over from Healthcare.gov (the Federally Facilitated Marketplace or FFM) to Pennie (the State Based Marketplace or SBM). In October 2020, the FFM sent your file over to Pennie to ensure you wouldn't have to reenter all of your information on Pennie and to carry forward your plan to the new system.

βœ‰ Pennie also took over communications for PA and explained the transition during the 2020 season.

βœ‰ For the 2021 Open Enrollment season we really didn't have many communication issues.

βœ‰βœ‰ However, since November of 2022, both Pennie AND the Federal system have been sending out communications. (TOO MANY EMAILS!!!)

The fact is that you can't get health insurance on healthcare.gov if you wanted to. Go to https://lnkd.in/exH8hSEA and plug in your zip code, and you'll see a message back to Pennie.

Right now, if an individual or family EVER had an account on Healthcare.gov AND they are not currently enrolled in a health plan through Healthcare.gov(again not possible for PA Residents) they are getting these increasingly alarming messages.

We are working with our CMS contacts and the communications team to get these stopped. Our recommendation is so long as you live in PA, you can ignore emails from Healthcare.gov. And, if that will change in the future, give us a heads up and we can provide further guidance.
