#15: "I had an amazing summer this year. In the last week of May and the first week of June, I was able to participate in a Penn State study abroad program in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. There, I was able to learn a lot about Ecuadorian culture, view examples of innovation in engineering to ensure sustainability, and work through the design process to imagine a sustainable solution to an art sourcing and island beautification issue. After I returned home from this wonderful trip, I jumped right into my manufacturing engineering internship at Dormakaba, where I was able to learn a ton about what it is like to work in the manufacturing industry. I was able to work on a safety issue, designing, manufacturing, and testing my solution. It was an amazing experience filled with so many learning opportunities. These two opportunities placed me in some amazing real-world engineering situations, where I was able to learn from senior engineers about how to attack different types of problems. This past summer will be a great example to draw upon in my engineering future." Eric J. (Penn State University)
