Recent foodborne illness outbreaks are a reminder that restaurant safety starts long before food reaches a guest’s table.

As we mark , it’s a good time for food-service operators to revisit key safeguards, including employee training, sanitation procedures, temperature monitoring, and supplier verification. Strong food safety practices help reduce risk and support a safer environment for employees and guests alike.

In 2024, 30% of all U.S. traffic fatalities involved an alcohol-impaired driver, resulting in 11,904 preventable deaths.

This Labor Day Weekend, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges you to drive sober or get pulled over. That means having a plan, whether you're driving, riding or hosting.

• Before drinking, plan a safe and sober ride home.
• Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if they've been drinking.
• If you’re hosting, make sure your guests have a sober ride home.
• If you see an impaired driver, call 911.
• Always wear your seat belt. It’s your best defense against impaired drivers.

As students head back to school, road safety becomes more important than ever. Whether you’re commuting or driving through your neighborhood, keep these reminders in mind:

🚸 Slow down and stay alert near schools and homes.
🛑 Stop for school patrol officers and crossing guards displaying stop signs.
🚌 Stop when a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends stop arm.
↔️ Leave 10 feet around buses for children entering or exiting.
🚶 Keep crosswalks clear so pedestrians aren’t forced into traffic.

Employ school bus drivers? Our School Bus Driver Safety Checklist can help protect drivers, students and communities throughout the year.

Red-light running is one of the most dangerous – and preventable – traffic violations.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

• Red-light running causes 1,000+ deaths each year.
• More than 100,000 people are injured.
• Nearly half of those killed are not the red-light runners.

This week marks Stop on Red Week, a nationwide campaign focused on improving intersection safety through education, enforcement, pedestrian awareness, and technology-driven solutions.

As an employer, don’t forget to remind your drivers: Every red light is an opportunity to make a safer choice.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. That’s why we support the Stop-Work Authority (SWA) program, which empowers every employee to pause work if something feels unsafe.

At Eastern Alliance, everyone has SWA. No exceptions.

Here’s how SWA works in practice:
• Stop the unsafe work, calling out the hazard
• Notify a supervisor
• Investigate the issue together
• Fix the problem
• Resume work safely
• Conduct follow-ups

Our SWA program is intended to keep the working environment safe, and it works best when everyone speaks up.

If your team works in the heat, it's important to recognize the risks and take steps to prevent heat illness.

If your team works in the heat, it's important to recognize the risks and take steps to prevent heat illness.

The good news? Most heat-related illnesses are preventable with a few simple precautions:
• Wear light, loose clothing
• Take breaks in the shade
• Avoid work during peak heat
• Drink water every 20–30 minutes

Just as important, know the warning signs. Heat cramps can cause muscle spasms. Heat exhaustion may lead to fatigue, dizziness, or nausea. Heat stroke is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
