A Safe and Secure Place for Recovery: Permanent Supportive Housing for Families Fairfield Homes, Inc.

Pearl House is an affordable housing community serving the needs of homeless families recovering from drug and/or alcohol addictions. Residents experience apartment life and supportive services through the Recovery Center. and the Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action Agency own the $5 million Pearl House and rent only to recovering people with children. Residents sign a lease and can stay as long

as they meet certain criteria regarding their recovery. Pearl House is the first permanent, supportive housing project in the state to become a certified Head Start location. Here are additional details about the Pearl House:

- There are 21 units, all are occupied and there's a waiting list
- 36 children live at the Pearl House with their families
- 2 families are currently pregnant with drug-free babies
- 7 families have been reunited
- 40% of the residents have lived at Pearl House for a year or more
- 5 residents are completing their GED
- 9 residents are employed
- 2 residents are in college
- 1 resident is working on financial aid to enter college

After years of not being free to choose to drink, Americans celebrated personal freedom at the end of Prohibition, but in many instances during the isolation of the Covid pandemic lockdowns, many Americans have been increasingly trapped in a downward spiral of addiction to alcohol that is anything but freeing.
