🇺🇸 Every June 14th, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes on Flag Day — and this year feels extra special as America prepares for its 250th anniversary in 2026. It’s a perfect moment to reflect on the history and meaning behind our flag as we approach this milestone celebration.

Here are a few fun facts about the flag you might not know:

🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old. Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the design as a high school project in 1958. President Eisenhower selected it from more than 3,000 submissions in 1960.

🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag. Most changes were made to update the number of stars as new states joined the Union — each addition taking effect on July 4th.

🔹 The colors of the flag carry meaningful symbolism. In 1774, Charles Thomson of the Continental Congress described red as hardiness and valor, white as purity and innocence, and blue as vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

🔹 Six American flags have been planted on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first, followed by five additional Apollo missions.

🔹 Our current design is the longest-running version in U.S. history. With no new states since Hawaii in 1959, it has remained unchanged for more than six decades.

As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, we’re proud to celebrate the rich history and enduring spirit represented by the flag we share. In honor of the coming celebration, our Lancaster office is displaying a 250 Years USA flag with accompanying red, white (silver) and blue (purple) flowers. Wishing you a wonderful Flag Day from all of us at GMS Insurance! ❤️🤍💙

A Memorial Day Message 🇺🇸
From Agnes, Littleton Office Mascot and Patriotic Goose:

Hello valued clients and dear friends too,
It’s Agnes the goose, dressed in red, white, and blue!
With my sparkly wand and my tutu so bright,
I’m here to remember this solemn day right.

We pause to give thanks for the heroes so brave,
Who gave their all so our freedoms we’d save.
Your courage and sacrifice we’ll never forget—
You stand in our hearts with honor and respect.

From all of us at Geo. M. Stevens & Son,
We wish you a meaningful Memorial Day one.
May we live with gratitude, peace in our land,
And remember the fallen who answered the call grand.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day holiday weekend!

With National Small Business Week here, we wanted to share some key insurance considerations for any small businesses navigating higher costs.

When budgets are tight, it might seem like a good idea to keep coverage lean, but being underinsured can cause devastating consequences. Here are a few risks of not having enough insurance:

✅ A loss can become an out-of-pocket event - If building, inventory, equipment, or tools are underinsured, you can end up paying the gap between what your policy covers and the actual cost to repair or replace the lost item(s) after a fire, theft, or storm, even if you “have a policy.”

✅ Income can stop, but bills keep coming - Property coverage can help offset repair costs in the event of damage. But without the right business income coverage, payroll, rent, and ongoing bills keep coming even when operations and cash flow have paused.

✅ Liability can spill past your limits - A single claim can bring legal defense costs, settlements, and medical expenses that exceed your limits, creating a significant financial burden.

If you have questions or are interested in adding additional coverages, please give us a call at 1-800-675-2555. Your agent can help find a solution that respects your budget and strengthens your long-term protection. For a quote, please call us and an agent will be happy to assist you.

A Short Poem for You from Agnes, Littleton Office Mascot 🪿

Though the clouds are gray in Littleton today,
I’m ready for the April showers to come my way!
With my yellow slicker and my hat tied tight,
I’m keeping our office spirits cheerful and bright.
At the agency, we know that a little rain must fall,
But I’m here to make sure you’re covered through it all.
So let the puddles splash and the stormy winds blow,
I’ve got my umbrella and I’m ready to go!
