MARKET UPDATE!!!
Here's what you need to know:

A dip in rates hasn't increased applications: The 30-year fixed rate fell to 7.41% from 7.50% the prior week. Even with the improvement, applications dropped 5.3%, with purchase applications down 7.3%.
Rising Treasury yields are keeping pressure on rates: The 10-year Treasury climbed to 5.04% as investors sold government debt. Growing Treasury supply, selective buyers and slower money market fund growth are weakening demand, making rate relief difficult.
The Fed's next move remains uncertain: Inflation hasn't come down much, and Fed officials disagree on whether rates need to stay high to bring it down, making the Fed's next decision harder to predict.
‌Housing market activity continues to slow: September pending home sales fell 7.3% from August to a record low, while homebuilder confidence dropped to 29 out of 100, its lowest since 2012. Both point to continued hesitation among buyers.

MARKET UPDATE!!!
Market Update:
The U.S. 10-Year Treasury yield is currently 4.994%, above opening levels near 4.977% and hovering just below the 5% mark. There are no economic releases this morning, however, the week ahead is filled with updates. Retail sales, Import prices, Housing Starts and Pending Home sales data are all scheduled for release. Market participants will likely also be heavily focused on this week’s Fed meeting. The market is widely expecting the Fed to hike rates at this meeting, with the latest Fed Watch poll showing an 88% chance of rate hike. The Fed is primarily focused on inflation in the current environment which remains under short run pressure with prolonged Iran conflict and looming higher oil prices that remain captive to reduced oil flows in the Middle East. The latest Unemployment Report showed a surprised gain in jobs well beyond forecast pointing to continued resiliency. The latest jobs data coupled with sticky inflation that remains above the Fed 2% target place the Fed in a position to act. Dissention has remained in the past few meetings which also leads to a higher likelihood of hike conversation at this week’s meeting.

Market Update:
It's been a rough couple of days for the bond market. Yesterday, it was Bessent and the reaction to the Treasury buyback announcement. Today it is an overnight surge in oil prices and a lackluster reaction to the Producer Price Index (PPI). PPI doesn't tend to move markets as much as CPI (due out tomorrow), but it certainly can for two reasons: on the rare occasions when it is released before CPI and when its components suggest an increase in PCE inflation. In other words, parts of the PPI data have a bearing on PCE and PCE is ultimately what matters most. The market doesn't always trade it that way because PPI/CPI reveal so much about PCE that PCE is less of a surprise by the time it comes out. About half of this morning's weakness was in place before PPI due to the overnight oil price spike. Bonds are showing their first indication that they might try to find their footing with 10yr yields around 4.92, but we're not counting chickens yet.

MARKET UPDATE!!!
Market Update:
Not much is going on in terms of scheduled economic events until Thursday and Friday's PPI and CPI reports respectively. Those could be very big deals as some investors think the results will determine "hike vs hold" at next week's Fed meeting. Today's biggest to-do is probably the 11am announcement of the next round of Treasury buybacks. Treasury already announced that the 10-30yr buybacks would be $4 bn per operation, but Bessent subsequently said that was a minimum amount. He spoke again this morning, and literally said "I am the house now," and "you can bet against me if you want." Sounds like he thinks pretty highly of the cards he's holding, and it looks like some of the recent bond market resilience could be a risk management strategy to not get caught on the wrong side of whatever we're about to see at 11am. After that, however, it will be back to reality (and the reality is that more Treasury buybacks = more Treasury issuance, all else equal. It's a zero sum game that is mathematically incapable of serving as lasting inspiration for buyers).

MARKET UPDATE!!!
Market Update:
The U.S. 10-Year Treasury yield is currently 4.647%, just above opening levels near 4.641%. This morning’s release moved yields higher to opening levels after yields slowly decreased from the open. PCE showed inflation at 3.7%, slightly above forecast of 3.6% on an annualized basis and 0.2% month over month also higher than forecast of 0.1%. Core PCE showed a rate of 3.3% on an annualized basis which was in line with forecast and 0.2% month over month as expected. GDP for Q2 showed an annualized rate of 1.5% which was also in line with forecasts. Increases in consumer spending, exports, and investment were partly offset by a decrease in government spending. Imports increased as well, decreasing the calculation overall. Wholesale and Retail inventories are due out tomorrow and Consumer Sentiment is due out Friday.

MARKET UPDATE!!!
Market Update:
The U.S. 10-Year Treasury yield is currently 4.716% slightly above opening levels near 4.706%. Central bankers will gather at the annual Jackson Hole Symposium this week culminating in a keynote address by Kevin Warsh on Friday. Inflation fears and the U.S. $40 trillion debt and recent news regarding a treasury buyback are in the forefront heading into the event. Treasury officials have noted this morning that the Treasury’s General Account, which stands at roughly $1 trillion currently, could be used to fund treasury buybacks. It’s also noted that AI spend has increased tremendously placing more weight on outstanding debt levels. There are no economic releases this morning, however, PCE is due out Wednesday along with a 2Q revision to GDP both of which make interesting timing coinciding with the Symposium.

MARKET UPDATE!!!
Market Update:
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield is currently 4.647%, below opening levels near 4.692%. The Treasury has announced an upscaled buyback operation, almost doubling the size of liquidity support buyback operations for longer-term debt, sending yields lower this morning. The buyback is aimed at 10 thru 30 Year Treasuries and should commence September 9th. The situation in Iran remains tense with no resolution in sight and negotiations stalling out. Investors remain concerned that inflation could run hotter and last longer than originally anticipated with global oil flows restrained in the region. The latest Fed meeting minutes release today at 2pm ET and could provide market participants with new details around recent dissention. There were three Fed officials voting to hike rates at the July meeting. Initial jobless claims and Manufacturing and Services PMIs are due out tomorrow and Friday respectively. Lats month’s PMI data suggests that demand remains strong across those industries with continued expansion taking place.
